Been open about a year I think.

Just a really cool small music venue right under the bridge by pastimes. Always some good music playing.

ETA: Massiveattack I've been helping out up there every now and then for a few months now

These amps go up to 11. Use all of it. I never thought I'd be annoyed with the kids' music for not being hardcore enough.

Maybe its the grumpy old man in me, but modern indie rock is most definitely weak as hell. I was a teenager during the grump and 90s alt rock explosion and that stuff had some balls. Even the women rocked back then. The modern PC, gender neutrality movement has turned too many men into pussies. I want something that rocks, not crybaby shite.

11 is not loud enough. My amps go to 12. Not only do they push you over the cliff, but they also also crash you on the rocks below!

These go to 11

Dayum. Still on the first page of this thread but you and I are very similar in our tastes and our view of music, generally.

quote:

I have an adrenaline rush everytime I hear 70's British rock-The Faces, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin,

Yup.

quote:

I think a well-crafted, melodic pop song with harmonies and rhythm section groove is a very hard thing to achieve indeed. I think Crowded House and Neil Finn particularly is a veritable Kiwi Paul McCartney.

Absolutely agree. People can put down "pop", but it's not easy to write a great song that endures and moves people. Yeah, I was listening to Crowded House the other day. Oh, and don't forget about Squeeze. Great songs.

quote:

I have mad love for 70's soul, Al Green and Marvin Gaye especially, and 60's Sam Cooke and Otis Redding.

As well you should. I was crushed when Marvin died because he was coming back on a roll.

quote:

Lyle Lovett in concert

Great shows. A real pro.

quote:

I have no particular favorite genre of music and think I can find the genius in almost any authentic expression.

Agreed. In fact, my late mom turned me onto some great standards from the 30's and 40's. Fantastic song writing and performances.

quote:

Pimp Jr is playing a reasonable rendition of Communication Breakdown in his room and one of the Pimpettes is learning a Sufjan Stevens song "Chicago" on her acoustic.

Very cool.

I have to ask, how come your politics are so fricked up?

My name is shutterspeed, and I get superdisappointed when no one responds to my '80s/'90s video flashback threads (see my Sal's Birdland thread).

That felt good to say.

Hi, I'm CoCo.
I love most types of music. Not a huge fan of country, especially the new stuff.
I'm mostly a lover of electronic and classic rock.
The 311 in my name has nothing to do with the band, though I do like them.
I don't care for Phish, Metallica, or Tool. There, I said it.

What is country now? I wish I could answer that question, but I do know country music when I hear it.

George Strait? Yup
Jerry Jeff Walker? Hell yeah!
Lady A? Um...not so much
Wayne Hancock? see also Hank Williams
Jason Aldean? Rock guy with a southern accent
Big and Rich? Another rock band, but I like 'em!
TayTay? She and Lanis need to hook up
Anything that's played on the Eagle/Mountain/River/Wolf? Be suspicious

Sings like he has Tupac's and Kenny Chesney's dicks in his arse. Is that better? Hate to rag on Tupac like that.

I like festivals. I've been to a lot of them. But there is no comparison to a club show to a festival show. A festival show is a greatest hits collection in a field. And that's nice, and I enjoy it, but it is about 10% as good as a great club show.

Agreed.

I am Fat Man aka The Fat Man.

First Albums: Johnny Cash live at Folsom Prison, San Quentin.

In the mid 70's, my go to: Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Black Oak Arkansas, J. Geil's, and Wanted, The Outlaws (Waylon, Willie et al), Springsteen.

80's, 90's .. slipped into a Jimmy Buffet/ Randy Newman / Bob Marley vortex. Completely missed the 80's 'Hair' bands.

'00s discovered Tex Country and New Orleans funk.

I attend Nashville Pop shows with my wife. I keep quiet. I attend 'my' shows alone. I prefer a show where I can move my feet.

This year: Todd Snider, Elizabeth Cook, Robert Earl Keen, Dr. John, Corey Smith (2), AA (3), Chris Cagle, Cowboy Mouth, Rebirth Brass Band, Tommy Malone (Subdudes), Galactic, Darius Rucker (W), Chris Knight, O.A.R. (fam), Kenny Chesney + ZBB + Eli Young (W), BJ Barham solo, North Mississippi All Stars, Turnpike Troubadours (2), Earth, Wind and Fire (W), Roger Creager, Midtown Music Fest.

Looking forward to 2014 ..

It's good to be a Fat Man.

I like Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, George Jones. Stuff like that.
Even some 80's and 90's.

But this new stuff. Sheesh. People kept talking about going to see The Band Perry and all I could say is, "Who?"

There is a bunch of good country out there these days. Go listen to Boot Liquor (iTunes radio or soma.fm). Or create Pandora stations based on Dale Watson, Hayes Carll, Randy Rogers Band, etc. Or tune in Outlaw Country on Sirius 60.
