The Beatles were right to break up and never reunite

Became a Beatles fan only after I read the Spitz biography and learned more about their work ethics and personalities. Made them much more human.
As I have learned and thought about their evolutions in music and maturity, and I watched some of the “Get Back” footage, it seems like they just ran their course. I don’t see the bitter conflict that we have been told was the catalyst. I saw guys who just didn’t want to stay doing the same thing for the rest of their lives.
Now, as I see all kinds of bands that continue to tour some 30 years since their peak, with no real hits since then and just being human jukeboxes, they seem sad.
Glad the Beatles never did anything like that. They did their own things, but the Beatles stayed a product of the 60’s.

couldn't disagree more
i get that there is nothing sadder than seeing geriatric bands like the eagles try to dig up every dollar before laying down in the grave
The Beatles on the other hand didn't tour after 66. Not that i would have been alive to see any of them but it would be nice to have live recordings of Let It be, Sgt Pepper, Abbey Road, The White Album.

I think they still had one more decent album left in them.
...but it's obvious Lennon wanted to end it.
And it's also obvious they all needed each other in order to make great music.

They didn't need to, as they had plenty of money. These classic rock bands touring now likely need the money.
Being "pure" is expensive.
Also, on his recent tour, Paul McCartney played 16 Beatles songs out of a 23 song setlist. Ringo Starr usually plays about 25 percent Beatles songs at his shows.
So neither is above being a "jukebox"

Should be in Beatles master thread, but:
quote:I pretty much agree with this. Not so much that it was the exact right time but just that something that burned that bright and intense for 7 years - that was a long time, and simply could not go on.
The Beatles were right to break up

never reunite
quote:Eh. There were plenty of mini-reunions and playing on each others' albums and the like. If John hadn't been murdered, I think they would have all worked together again, whether or not it was officially called The Beatles.
never reunite

Yet he was the one who most often talked about a possible reunion.
If they (especially Paul) had treated George as equal instead of a sideman (after he had clearly upgraded his songwriting) they could have continued longer. Although the omnipresent Yoko helped suck the joy out of the recording sessions.

I don't remember the order of recording of their last albums, but Abbey Road was a unified, polished and brilliant album while The White Album and Let It Be seemed to be more disjointed and thrown together, especially White album that included too much filler (reminds me of Physical Graffiti).

abbey road was last. They recorded it after let it be but before it was released. The story goes that Paul called George Martin and asked him to produce, and he agreed with the condition that they do it “the way they used to do it”
The story also goes that john wanted his songs on one side and Paul’s on the other LOL. Paul’s song are pretty weak but his bass playing is the best in rock history on that album

And George and Ringo’s on the 3rd and 4th sides.

George was right. Big mistake to let Spector do it.

Surely you don't mean Abbey Road. You Never Give Me Your Money, and She Came In Through the Bathroom Window are my favorites.

You Never Give Me Your Money
quote:just a song fragment, its ok inside the medley but not close to representative of his prior work.

by the way...
quote:john was right on this one
Lennon ultimately said that he disliked Abbey Road as a whole and felt that it lacked authenticity, calling McCartney's contributions "[music] for the grannies to dig" and not "real songs",and describing the medley as "junk ... just bits of songs thrown together".

First of all, I don't agree with simply listing the medley as one. But if you do, You Never Give Me Your Money is part of it. One would also think one would have to include Golden Slumbers and Carry That Weight as high points as well, given they use the same chord progressions and/or outwardly reprise Money.
Having Oh Darling near the bottom is sheer lunacy.
