1996..first time i listened to A Live One by Phish. It blew my mind and was hooked ever since. Before that Pink Floyd was my favorite band and at that time i thought i couldn't become more obsessed with another band but Phish definitely proved me wrong.

I've said this many times too... then Mother's Milk came out and I was confused... then came BSSM and I was laying in a corner retching as I heard it... every subsequent release has been worse..
That said, my all-time faves ares still my faves Minutemen, Replacements, REM , etc., etc., etc...
My current favorites change... for instance, I haven't loved the recent Wilco albums (not bad) but their live shows are still great! Looking forward to seeing them Saturday in the ATL...

I don't have this problem. Foo Fighters still kick arse and Dave Grohl wont be making any electronic bullshite. 
Hell their latest record Wasting Light is easily their second best album. Colour and the Shape is still #1 though.
I will say that I don't listen to Built to Spill nearly as much as I used to. I played them out and their last album only had a few tracks I really liked. I'm also not a 24/7 stoner anymore and that probably has a lot to do with it.

For me it's Falling in Reverse. They mix rap, grind core, hard core, scream break downs, melodies etc. pretty much everything. They're a music history class in music form.

I hear this all the time with long time RHCP fans and I just dont see it. I think with the peppers you have two kinds of fans. The punk/funk crowd and the pop/rock crowd. Depending on where you fall you will say they suck or have gotten better.
I personally LOVE their recent albums. Infact I never became a big fan until Aeroplane Flies High and have loved every album since. Stadium Arcadium was a monster album and had John Frusciante at his best. If all you ever heard was Dani California and Snow I can see why you might not like it. But those are just two songs on a double disc album that explodes with some great guitar work from Frusciante.
The new album was a slight step back but not awful. I think thye just need to find a better groove with the new guitarist and the next one will be better. I'm With You still has some really good tracks. Brendan's Death Song, Ethiopia, Police Station, Even You, Brutus?, and Monarchy of roses are all on my regular rotation of songs.

Foo Fighters lost me because they never changed their sound IMO. That's fine for most, I'm sure, but I had no interest after a while.

What would you have wanted to see them do differently? To each their own but outside of some softer acoutisc songs I wouldn't want to see the Foo stray too far from solid rock and roll. Why fix what isnt broken?
If they put out some shitty records I could understand. But even the worst Foo Fighters album kicks arse. Pretty sure One by One was Daves least favorite and it had one of their biggest songs with All My Life.

I don't know. Not saying they are a bad band. To this day, DG impresses me with how far he has distanced himself from Nirvana.
I used to love them. I guess I just stopped liking that sound.

This, I would also like to point out that they don't need to change their sound. The people that like pure Rock and Roll are the ones that like pure rock and roll.. that's why I didn't like it as much - because my taste changed. If they actually changed their sound they would alienate their followers... and would force themselves into early retirement, that would not be a good move for them.
