I used to love them. I guess I just stopped liking that sound.
Blind Melon is a great example. I just recently started playing their stuff again after a few years break. Now it's fresh again.
It's such a shame Shannon Hoon passed away when he did. That band really had something special with him. The new singer sounds like him but doesn't make the same magic Shannon could make.

I just don't listen to "pure rock n roll" anymore. There might be a song here and there that I'll like, but I'm not going to listen to it all the time.

The Colour and the Shape will always have a special place in my heart. That and Sublime defined a summer for me in college. Great memories

can I just say, Tool still rocks, they have never been my favorite band by any stretch of the imagination, but they are always good for a worthy song.

I just recently busted out Sublme for the first time in a year or so. Those albums are so timeless for me. Thats another artist who left us too soon.

I give Tool credit for being unique. I really liked them in high school. However, there's no way I can listen to them now. They're too negative.

What a friggin idiot. I'd look at the CD booklet (old fashioned statement) and see that pic of him playing guitar for his kid, and it would piss me off. I guess now that I'm involved in foster care, it angers me more, and I see plenty of parents who can't get their act together for their children. Just don't get it.

I would probably fall in to the first group.. But I was 15 yrs old and their silliness/punk sound appealed to me... Never really been a huge funk fan, though there is a time and place for it, I guess...
My musical tastes changing had a lot to do it with it, I'm sure...
Now, his voice, melodies, everything are like nails on a chalk board... there is nothing interesting going on in their music for me...

Jimmy Eat World, The Afters, Switchfoot, and 30 Seconds to Mars are the closest thing I listen to that is "Rock" .. so in the end.. I don't listen to anything like pure rock anymore
P.S: Mutemath is probably currently my "favorite" band, but I have actually been listening to other bands more lately, just had to put them down for a bit.

Aerosmith is and will always be my favorite band. So I really don't belong in this discussion.
There is really no argument that Pump and Get a Grip are two phenomenal albums. Get a Grip had huge success as a pure rock album during the hieght of grunge and alt rock that killed off all the hair bands.
9 Lives was a solid album that didn't get enough airplay because so many radio stations were just not playing rock music anymore at that time except classic rock. Yes, it had too many ballads and wasn't nearly as good as Get a Grip, but it still had some really good rock songs and just didn't get a fair shake.
Just Push Play was horrible. I think a couple of songs had top 40 mainstram success, but it was dumb as shite.
When I think of Aerosmith now, I think of the hard hitting rock/blues band from the 70's and the resurgent rock band that survived the grunge era stuff. I just ignore the 2000's.

Pearl Jam when I heard they got rid of Dave Abbruzzese
Smashing Pumpkins when D'Arcy was no longer the bassist
Beastie Boys when DJ Hurricane stopped spinning for them (can't stand Mix Master Mike in that role, just leave the damn songs alone and let them be the original version)
I'm kind of leaning that way with QOTSA - too many damn rhythm section changes

Agree with both. Wasting Light is one of my least favorite Foo Fighters album. I really liked the change of pace from "In your honor". It was a lot darker than the previous releases. "Echoes, Silence..." was pretty decent too. Saw them at HoB around the exact time that album got dropped and they opened with "Let It Die", which I had never heard before at the time. Kicked the freaking building to a 10 when the kick came in.

I always just assumed Billy's head caused that band to fade away.
