My bad. If you had that clarification there from the beginning I completely missed it. Carry on.

Billy Joe Shaver was hanging out at a local bar with some of his friends, and a friend texted me to let me know. I walked up to him and apologized for interrupting him and his friends, and I told him that I wanted my son to meet him. That old man stood up like a soldier and shook my 6 year old son's hand with his three fingers and talked to him like he was the most important person in the world.
Yeah, I took my boy to a bar to meet Billy Joe Shaver. Told him I'm just an old chunk of coal.
I only got to see Billy Joe once, maybe 10 years ago, but he hung around after the show and seemed to absolutely love meeting fans.

Here is some Billy Joe history on a song Waylon made famous:
Billy Joe Shaver was only 33 years old when he released his 1973 Kris Kristofferson-produced debut, Old Five and Dimers Like Me. Yet, by that time he was blessed and cursed to have lived several lifetimes, all of them hard, some of them nearly fatal. The pain and world-weariness of his hardscrabble existence was reflected in a rasp of surprising emotion. His voice was the sound of the dirt, the sound of the earth, the sound of a simple man yearning for grace.

They couldn't hold Billy Joe's guitar strap.

Well, if you're mentioning these guys.....which I'm not really in agreement with, although I do like max stalling and tommy akverson, then it opens up a different level of singer songwriters. And I guess there is no way for any contemporary musician to compare with the mythic adoration if Billy Joe, Willie, Guy Clark, etc. So....Hayes Carl, Will Johnson, Slaid Cleves, Adam Carrol, Charlie Crocket, Brent Best, Jimmy Smith, Michele Shocked, john Pedigo, Rosie Flores,,....and I just thought of Delbert McClinton....he's a legend.
