I want it to be good. Please be good.

Hopefully they actually let Derek have a few solos on this. Susan seems to be the focal point of this ensemble now, unfortunately.

Half way through and it sounds like the Tedeschi Project. Derek took the album off. Check out the solo on “Walk through this life”, and obviously Trucks has checked out. Bummer

This album is shite. Moving to Hayes Carll and Ryan Bingham for the day.

Caught them at the Saenger two weeks ago. Wasn't impressed, but it was mainly because of their crowd. They are one band I definitely prefer to see at a festival rather than an indoor theater venue.

Only guitar players pay real money to watch 2 hours of guitar solos, unless he can learn to sing he better keep her around.

The only way a guitar player is going to get top billing, sell out a 10,000 seat arena, and make real money is to be a singer songwriter first. If SRV hadn't been a decent singer and penned a few songs he would have just had a following of guitar players going to see him on the club circuit.

Kofi Burbridge, keyboardist, died yesterday.

Dang. Only 57. Sounds like he had a heart condition.
I’ll have to check out the new album. I like their studio albums and loved seeing them live, but I didn’t care for the sound of that live album they released. Odd engineering choices.

I saw them at Tuscaloosa Amphitheater last year. It was pretty good, nothing extraordinary. Trucks is a fantastic guitarist, but after a few songs, all of the other songs sounded pretty much the same to me.

quote:So you’re telling me there’s no in between with what they’re putting out and a 2 hour guitar solo? The music isn’t even guitar driven and his solos are few and far between. Outside of a few short moments of each show he’s basically going through the motions and playing at a studio guitarist level. If their only goal is ticket sales then I guess the formula they have is fine but from a creativity stand point it is really stale imo. It’s like having one of the most talented chefs in the world and they’re only making hot dogs.

I believe this may the first time ever these six words were strung together. Hilarious

It's not Trucks though. John Lennon takes this cake.

I'd like to see Trucks show off a little more too, but Idk why y'all are hating on Susan like she isn't a badass singer

Kofi was the man. Going to miss him on and off the stage. As to the new album, Trucks will always sound better live than in studio, so I pay little mind to the studio work.

Agreed...very sad to hear of his passing. He was a tremendous musician.

Also true. I love Susan as a singer but I do wish Derek would do a mini-set of DTB-type material in the middle of a regular TTB set.

I have discussed this many times with members of the band and to a fault they say that Derek does what he wants to do, so I just enjoy it for what it is.
