I appreciate you sharing that article. Susan Tedeschi, however, is not a "world-class" blues guitarist. There is only one of those in that band...and it isn't her.

She's better than you think. Also, pay attention to the LOCKN sets in August. Trey and Derek Trucks is going to be a glimpse of where the band should go. Unfortunately for TTB, there's no way to make that permanent. They should go out and hire a younger 2nd guitar, a guy like Marcus King or Lukas Nelson. The band will ultimately have to pivot to the Allman model, or else put everyone to sleep. Could be a really cool group if they streamline properly. And he is that talented.

I prefer them in a festival setting. Wanee a few years back, they crushed. The Saenger three weeks ago was a snoozer for me, but that was more to do with the front half of the venue filled with sitting seniors and the back half of the venue filled with "shooshers".
Not intending to slam Susan too much, but I wish Derek would go off and jam more and let her just sing more, I'll leave it there.
Lukas has too good of a thing going to leave POTR, but King seems like a good fit.
One aspect that hooked me on Trucks way back when was his interaction with Warren Haynes. Trucks definitely needs that counterpart to trade shots with...and I don't see Susan in that role.

You and I think similarly, guitar that stage up. They have a lot of time to continue to tinker.

I think Trucks has taken it upon himself to play "maestro" up there with that huge ensemble...that seems the best way to describe his stage presence now. He is sort of conducting an orchestra it seems.
Yes, the grittier the guitar play, the happier I am.

Maestro is a proper descriptor. He's the only one who's ear is good enough to do it. It's too choreographed which it has to be with that many people on stage. They need to go full-on jam band and not be afraid of improv. The sax was mediocre at the show here in New Orleans but got no less than 3 long solos. And they missed Kofi bad (very sad). All that said, it's still a good show. Damn that audience was freaking old as dirt though - guess that's the only group with money to see shows these days. Sad.

I agree with the last several comments and that is exactly what Derek is doing. However, they are also trying to make money. Take a look at their core audience. Take a look at who buys the tickets. Half of their core audience wants a seated show. Tough spot to be in. Except it is not, because it is what he wants to be doing. The loss of Kofi will hurt the band though, which obviously sucks. I am going DC Saturday night. I am hoping it is not a huge let down and all sadness. Still looking forward to it.

Yes, losing Kofi hurts a bit. I expect them to channel that into some bomb arse shows though.
As much as it sucks, tragedy and loss bring out the best in some musicians. Look for Derek to lay pipe here soon.

They rolled out 'Dreams' right before the NOLA shows. Not sure if they've played since, but that's a great fit for them. If you have not heard "The Ending" from the new album, I'd imagine you hear a lot of it at shows now.

Review of last night TTB show in Brooklyn, clearly an emotional one. LINK
