Motown all day. I mean Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Commodores……:

Fair take but I can give you Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Isaac Hayes, Booker T and the MGs from 926 E. McLemore in Memphis.

I don’t dislike Motown one iota but I prefer my R&B and soul a little rawer, ergo I prefer Stax.

This is what I mean by raw. I wish a genie could send me back to the front row for this.

Do you ever post in the Soul thread? It can always use some Philly.

Malaco was great but I asked for a choice between two specific labels as to which was best between those two, not the best overall among all labels.

Tough one. Would have to go with Motown because of Talking Book and What's Going On, but there is not wrong answer to this question.

Stax was hipper. Motown was more of a force and influence.

Stax, for the greasiness - and regional bias.

If there ever was a perfect time to use the “Why Not Both” meme, this is it.
