Etta James had a very balanced voice, with pretty good range, but not as powerful as either LaBelle or Aretha. She was almost the female Nat King Cole with power. For that matter, Jennifer or Billie Holiday had more powerful voices for my money.
The Houston's (Whitney, especially) brought a clean power that is deceptive, I'll grant you, but not really in the same league as some of these. When she was healthy, Whitney could deliver what was needed, but I was never blown away by the raw power.

Probably shouldn't include a lot of session singers or backups, but I would say Merry Clayton (Gert Town, representin') deserves mention based solely on her work with Ray Charles and as the female voice on the Stones' track "Gimme Shelter".

Ronstadt goes to the top of this list, not only for her power, but for her range, tone, and ability to perform many genres at the highest level (Nelson Riddle, anyone?).
