Congrats to the Faces/Small Faces and Beastie Boys, too...
But I dont get GnR's induction... one great hard rock record and a good ep.... and thats it...

You couldn't get into it, but it was still great stuff.
GnR is like the Sandy Kofax of Rock n Roll. The peak was short, but so awesome they have to go in.

I think they probably couldve cut it down to one record, but it was in line with Axl's over bloated ego at the time of their release...

can't argue with any of that. A lot of the stuff on II is filler. Not surprisingly the best stuff is stuff Izzy was involved with. Dust and Bones, Double Talkin Jive, 14 Years, Pretty Tied Up

But we can say that about a lot of old bands too...My problem with the RNRHOF is their acceptance of non 'rock' music. Why is Madonna in the HOF?? Why is ANY rap act even considered?? Why are bands, for example, that played at Woodstock, have great guitarist, and made such an impression on music, but are not in??? For example, Alvin Lee & Ten Years After and Leslie West & Mountain?? I just don't get it...

Does anyone know the criteria used to nominate and/or induct groups onto RnR HOF? Not that I am fans of Rush or Kiss, but I would think they would be in based on others that have made it.

This is part of the problem with a RnR Hall of Fame. People have such varied tastes. I don't see why simply playing at Woodstock is a qualification. I've never heard of those 2 bands you mentioned. It can't all be about sales, but bands should have had some impact and GnR had a massive impact. Now I can see people saying they should not go, because their out put is relatively small, though that argument will probably be made about Nirvana and they most certainly should and will go in.

Rock is pretty much a vague term that encompasses all pop music that isn't country. I'm fine with rap getting in, mainly because it has clear roots in disco, which is a subgenre of rock.
And it's clear early hip hop acts considered themselves rock (Run DMC called themselves the Kings of Rock, for example). Rap is a subgenre of rock. If you get to that point, there's no logical reason to keep out Run DMC, Public Enemy, or the Beastie Boys.
God, I love that Rush isn't in. It gives me perverse glee because their fans care so much, and there are bands in that couldn't give a crap. Makes me happy.

I sort of agree with you but I'm not that bothered by it. They really did become a joke pretty quickly. Those later awful ballads and incredibly pretentious videos were really embarrassing.

This is true. Rock n' roll over a relatively short period of time became a broad term.

Thank God in heaven I've discovered someone who feels the same way I do about Rush. Can they play? Sure. Are they ridiculous? No doubt.

Clearly there is an effort to make it not just white guys (who are basically what R&R is outside of Chuck Berry & a couple of others).

It's kind of what Jann Wenner wants. If he isn't a big fan of you, you're chances of getting in are slim. Argue if you want, but I think Chicago deserves in. Because Wenner has a grudge with Robert Lamm and I believe Cetera, they're far away from getting in.

Wow
I love Rush and not only do I not care that they are not in, I don't think they should be. I'm much more of a Hall of Fame purist though. If I was in charge of sports Halls there would about half as many people in them. (Sorry Burt Byleven you too Lynn Swann). Sports of course are different because we have stats to measure and its not arguable that certain players are better than others. With music what's better is 100% subjective. For me to be in the RnR HOF is hard to pin down, but needs some degree of impact, influence and longevity. I know that's vague, but hey, I know it when I see it.
Rush was a fairly popular band in the day, but they didn't have that one transcendent album (Like Appetite or Born in the USA for example). They didn't pioneer a new sound or something different they way say Nirvana or an act like Run DMC did. So I have no problem with them not beeing in.
Kiss who I really don't care for, should be in however given their massive impact and influence.
