I like more of panteras music

Pantera. Much better grooves and better riffs. Slayer is pretty awesome and has written some genius material as well, but nearly every single Pantera song is awesome.

Pantera by far.
I actually can't stand Tom Araya's voice most of the time.

Pantera has made some good music.
But Slayer made the album 'Reign in Blood.'
A masterpiece

Tom Araya's vocals have slipped in recent years, but their shows are some some of the most intense you will ever see. Lombardo always played tight, and Hanneman and King are usually on point.
Plus, they have one of the best pyrotechnic shows in metal.

I'm gonna say Slayer. Pantera was good, but nothing they put out was as good as Reign in Blood.
Influentially-speaking, you are a 100% correct. I would argue that Reign in Blood is THE most influential, not best, thrash album ever released.
However, I'm not even sure that Reign in Blood is the best Slayer release. I always thought that Seasons in the Abyss was the more complete album.

You've got a point, but when people think of Slayer they think of the break-neck speed of RIB rather than the well-roundedness of SITA. I hear a lot of people complain that Reign is repetitive, but that's really the only knock against it I can think of and the albums pretty short so it's not like it's a chore to listen to.

Hanneman hasn't played with them in a few years. I don't think he's coming back either.

I've seen them four times and they've never had pyro. Maybe that's just at festivals.

Hahaha. Oh come on Brosef, you know I was referring to the Slayer of years past.
Only half of the original lineup is still intact at this point. To me, they're barely Slayer these days.

It always seems like they've had some pyro or effects implemented into footage I've watched. They had a phenomenal pyro display during Mayhem Fest a few years ago.

True, it is more synonymous with what people think of as "Slayer". I would argue that Hell Awaits equally epitomizes that intensity.
It's certainly not as variegated in terms of tempo and arrangements as later releases, but it's definitely not repetitive.
For God's sakes, it's less than 29 minutes long. It's just breakneck speed from start to finish with the exception of the beginning of "Raining Blood", which gives the listener just enough time to catch their breath before the sonic wave of fury and aggression returns tenfold.
It set the template for nearly ever grindcore and death metal release for the next decade.

Close, but edge to PanterA for me.
Posted on 6/23/16 at 9:55 pm to maxxrajun70
Pantera for me. I saw them six times from 95 through 2000. Went to my first metal show to see them and White Zombie in 95. I was hooked. The will always be my favorite metal band. They kicked arse and toured rigorously. A few pics in tribute to Dime and two of the other greatest metal shredders of all time.

Fat fingers.
Saw Slayer in Nola last year and they were pretty damn good.

Down is badass but the rest can't compare to Pantera.

Like both but I pick Pantera.
