Harold Dorman was a Memphis singer who wrote and recorded the original version of "Mountain of Love" in 1959. Personally I prefer it to Johnny Rivers' cover.
Harold Dorman actually got on prime time TV during his 15 minutes of fame: Dick Clark's show on ABC. Unfortunately that episode is lost.
Other acts have sought-after TV appearances: The Velvet Underground on Upbeat, Little Willie John or The Maddox Brothers and Rose on anything. But Dorman's TV shot would be an extraordinary find, as even still photographs of him are very rare. Only two show up in a Google Image search.

While on the topic of Billy Joel...everyone remembers Uptown Girl with Christie Brinkley in the video. Joel's inspiration for the song was a famous supermodel, but it was actually Elle Macpherson, his girlfriend at the time.
Another songwriting tidbit...
Cyndi Lauper's top 40 song Money Changes Everything was a cover of a song originally by a small punk band in Atlanta. The songwriter was talking to his landlord and made the comment that "Money changes things." The landlord replied "Money changes everything."

Naomi Watts of "The Ring" fame has a parent named Peter Watts who was a road manager and sound engineer for Pink Floyd. I think he died in the late 70's.

But this thread is about trivia, not artistic opinions.

Jimmy Buffett, who was a friend of Jim Croce, credits his career surge in the mid-70's to the death of his friend, as ABC/Dunhill records then pegged Buffett as "the next Croce" and put more juice behind his promotion.

The 8-track tape version of Pink Floyd's Animals combines Pigs on the Wing Parts I and II into a single song with a guitar solo in the middle.

One I just learned about today...
Singer/actor Paul Williams (Little Enos Burdette in Smokey and the Bandit) wrote the lyrics to Rainbow Connection and The Love Boat theme song.
His brother Mentor Williams wrote Drift Away for Dobie Gray. His other brother, John Williams, was awarded NASA's distinguished service medal for his work on the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.

Rob Zombie credits Beavis and Butthead for saving White Zombies careers.
After Thunder Kiss ‘65 music video aired on the show, La Sexorcisto: Volume 1 went from selling 500 copies a week to 30,000 copies. Album sold more than 2 million.

Money Changes Everything
My band did a cover of this in our clubbing days at AU in ‘81, well before the Cyndi Lauper version hit it big - in fact I probably still have my copy of the LP somewhere. I always preferred the album version, but apparently Tom Gray still performs it with the original lyrics (here’s a recent acoustic solo performance). Not sure if he prefers it that way or if he just figures people only know the Lauper version.
BTW:
