Rock in the mainstream
Anybody else think this will be the case soon. I say maybe 4 or 5 years will be the time we get the next original band making waves in mainstream music.

re: Rock in the mainstream
Nope

It's old crap, "Dad Rock". Garage bands start b/c misfits want to impress girls. Why take all that time to learn a musical instrument when girls nowadays are impressed by rapping to a laptop beat?

Face it -- Rock has become jazz. It's a minority interest. Soon it will be a cult.

Define mainstream. Rock festivals draw huge crowds. Disturbed is about to go on an arena tour. Slipknot is putting out an album next year and will do a big tour. Greta Van Fleet is rising quickly. Ghost is headlining arenas now. Just because rock isn't on top 40 radio doesn't mean it went away.

Nah i disagree bud. Every era and incarnation of music becomes parody before the next wave ushers in. Rap is next. Rap/hiphop has been the beneficiary of numerous external advantages which has sustained its improbable run

- Every single major genre has sold its soul and adopted/implemented rap music in an attempt to reach a broader audience and remain relevant. All that actually happened was all genres lost their soul. It all ages miserably

- The digital era. Rap peaking during this age has helped it go global. Any kid in any country with a shitty laptoo can shop beats, record, collaborate, edit, market, and sell their "music" with ease. No learning music, never picking up an instrument

- The streaming era. All the current services (Apple, Spotify, Tidal, etc) have very cozy relationships with labels and artists. Between promotion and, i think, gross manipulation of streams/sales rap has again benefited from its popularity peaking at the perfect moment

- Cultural shifts and attitudes. It has never in history been less cool to be a white person. People literally apologize for it these days. We're the tastemakers of the world and in this country pro athletes and reality stars are our royalty. Not too hard to connect the dots and understand why rap music is the soundtrack to absolutley everything

Eventually nostalgia, appreciation for musicianship, and the absence of soulful music will create a new waves of RnR hopefully

One can only hope. I spin the FM dial through different genres sometimes when I'm stuck in traffic, and it's just all soft, downbeat lowkey repetition. Pretty much have to search the internet and go to little shows to find energetic rock music. Seems like the people driving the consumer train just want to be sung/hummed to sleep.

Exactly. Rap is the soccer/lottery/reality show of music. The ultimate in democracy -- anyone can be a millionaire, anyone can be a TV star, anyone can be a musician. As America becomes more and more a third world country, rap and soccer will become more popular, not less.

The entire idea of playing musical instruments will soon seem as quaint as restringing zithers. Why go to all that time and effort when a laptop gives it to you immediately? And more and more of the musical audience prefers the laptop.

Everything has its golden age, and every golden age comes go an end. Greek tragedy, the Roman Empire, Opera, Westerns, Ole Miss football... All had their day in the sun, but eventually saw it set.

If I was going to make a list of some of the new bands that still feel like they're keeping that rock "feel" alive, I'm taking The Struts, Greta Van Fleet, Racounteurs (they're baaaaaack), Four Years Strong, Royal Blood, Clutch, and Devin Townsend

Keep a lookout for Jade Bird.

This might be the dumbest post I have ever seen on this board

Rap and soccer both started in first world countries and their rise in Amarica has nothing to do with what ever stupid shite you're blabbering about

That has no bearing on his statement

And hes right. Decades from now, when your grandchildren are wasting away on a guacamole plantation for room and board, youll weep to your god that theres at least a mariachi band playing on the back porch. To drown out the bump of lil old wayne coming from all the cars that pass by

How is he right? Literally nothing he said made sense. Sounds more like the ramblings of some old dude on Facebook.

We can talk about how mainstream music has become worse but that has more to do with the digital era and streaming. Plus top 40 music has been 90% shite for a while.

Trying to link any of it to American decline is just stupidity and ignorance

There will be a push back to analog as a counter culture in the next 20 years.

Bands that play instruments and write there own music, nonchain restaurants, plot driven movies, wooden tables at restaurants, etc...
