Wow, so sad and not old at all.

Saw him live a couple times - public show and a corporate event. He was really good.

Saw him at the opry in like 1998. He was a great singer songwriter. I Miss My Mary gets stuck in my head like 3 or 4 times a year. RIP

I always thought his voice was perfect, but some people didn't think he was really country enough, and maybe it wasn't, but he sold some records. That song Small Town Saturday Night, that has to be one of the most successful records in jukebox country music.

It really is. There's something in the way he sings the lines in that song that really grabs me. I'm not technical enough to explain what it is, but it's almost like the way he sings the lines comes across as thoughts in his head.

I think you are talking about that Bridge, where he says, never meant to push or shove you... Hal Ketchum was smooth on his bridges.

It's more the whole song and the way he sings it. Perhaps it's just his singing voice or something. I don't know, it's just always grabbed me. Like in the opening lines how he goes from the line "Larger than life again" to "holding me tight again." Like there's no pause between those lines and it comes across almost like a stream of conscious thought. If that makes sense.

Bruce Springsteen has a similar style in some of his songs. Brilliant Disguise comes to mind.

Yeah, that makes sense, my mother is a fish.

No upvotes or downvotes? No Faulkner Fans in here? Stream of Consciousness?
