Truly a unique character, and a great musician. I saw him, the Meters, and Professor Longhair at one of the Mardi Gras Mambo concerts at the St Bernard Civic Center in the early 70’s. He will be missed.

Saw him in 1973 in Lafayette. He had just released In The Right Place. We were very familiar with the LP and had front seats at Blackham Coliseum. We interacted with him and got a blast of his Magical Glitter.

I remember going out to eat after and everyone was covered with large glitter specks. Magical Mac!

Thanks for the music!

1972. Also had a then very popular local band, Paper Steamboat on the bill. There are some bootleg rips of Dr John's set floating around the internet.
When Treme was filming in NO, I somehow managed to have dinner with Mac. My cousin was a sound man on the show and he and I met for dinner. We had just been seated, when the waitress asked if we mind sharing the table with another gentleman (my cousin looked up and saw who it was, and said to me, move your arse over). Was a memorable experience. His "persona" is not faked, or staged. That was who he truly was. God speed, Mac. New Orleans lost an icon.

I can't say I'm that familiar with his music but I like this. RIP.

I played on a recording session with him about 8 years ago

He was everything I thought he would be

No bullshite, straight to work, cantankerous, but also gracious and funny

Definitely a highlight for me

RIP Mac

Primarily guitar

I play bass on a lot of gigs, dabble on anything stringed, keys

Don't drum, but I think a year with a kit and I'd be passable

Don't want to derail the thread
