I had the privilege of being around him for his last few months. He wouldn’t say much but any time he was addressed he would smile, laugh and say “yeahhh” in his unique voice. It was like an automatic response which gave me the impression that he was always trying to put people in good spirits and keep the good vibes going. A true New Orleans and music legend

Saw him in 1973 in Lafayette. He had just released In The Right Place. We were very familiar with the LP and had front seats at Blackham Coliseum. We interacted with him and got a blast of his Magical Glitter.

I remember going out to eat after and everyone was covered with large glitter specks. Magical Mac!

Thanks for the music!

I think this was the same concert with Johnny Winter and Captain Beyond was supposed to appear also, but they were a no show.

I posted this in the O-T thread. This is an old performance with him and Jools Holland. David Sanborn gives the intro but the music starts at 1:15 if you wish to skip past that. LINK

The Night Tripper. Inspiration for naming Bonnaroo. Writer of "Love that Chicken from Popeye's...". A real "Chi-racter".

I would see him every year at his pre-NY Eve gig at Tip's. Knew two years ago when he cancelled it the end was approaching.

The late show is over...

A friend of mine told me around Jazz Fest that Dr. John would pass soon, as he was in hospice I believe.

The real talented musicians, not label-forced bubbly yum bands, are dying out. Catch them if you can. We'll be left fighting for scraps with the yums soon enough.

WWOZ in New Orleans is killing it with their tribute. Amazing people he worked with including Allen Toussaint, Neville Bros, Doc Pomus, Randy Newman, The Band. Apparently there is a new country album coming out soon which he was very happy with produced by Shane Theriot, lots of guests including David Torkanowsky.

On a Mt. Rushmore of all time NOLA musical greats, Dr. John would share top billing with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt. He added a lot. Thanks, Mac, we loved ya - you gonna be missed.

Fantastic second line for Mac yesterday in NO. About 6 hours notice for a start at 4pm, on a Fri, in 95 degree heat. Still, huge crowd assembled. RIP, Mac.
