Murmur is my favorite, but Green is a very close second. Severely underrated album, and it's the moment the hipster crowd turned their backs on the band, despite delivering a tremendous album. OK, Stand is annoying, but it's a better song than it's given credit for and its a sneaky political song disguised a stupid pop song, which is sort of genius.

The last record I bought was Monster.. They kinda lost me with that one and though the music wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything that I had to hear..
But they had an awesome run of great records...

Monster is a great álbum. I don´t understand the hate for it. They proved they could rock in a thunderous way.
That said, probably Fables of the Reconstruction is the most coherent and interesting (barely nudging out Reckoning and Life´s Rich Pageant).

i didn't hate it, just didn't find anything remarkable about it, that required multiple listens... It was a much welcomed return to rock after a couple of more subdued records...
To each their own, I don't understand the hate for Document, Green, OOT and Automatic... though I notice a departure in earlier sound (kinda)..

I meant flow as an álbum. I agree some songs are a bit lacking.
Reckoning probably gets the nod as far as no throwaways.

Lifes Rich Pageant for me.
"Begin the Begin"
"These Days"
"I Believe"
REM at their best.

Life's Rich Pageant
I am a huge fan of the early stuff - murmur/reckoning/fables - but life's rich pageant was such a great album.

I had friends that were really into REM in their early days, and they just never did anything for me until Document. Their older albums still don't do much for me, though I can respect their impact on music in general.
Automatic For the People is probably my favorite REM album, with Monsters a close second.

Out of Time
Document
Green
Every time I listen to New Adventures in Hi-Fi, I'm surprised at how much I like it. And Up is really good. Matter of fact, they should have quit right after that came out.
