Free Bird is the unpopular choice because it became so overplayed that it has almost become a joke to some extent.
But it is the 100% the #1 answer to this question. It is everything a solo should be. Over the top, multiple guitars, taking the listener along for the ride, pushing past what is considered normal, etc. I still don’t get tired of listening to it. It is in your face, wide open, and almost never ending when 1st listening to it. It will always have a special place in my heart.
And this is coming from someone who absolutely thinks Comfortably Numb is something almost otherworldly in its epicness.
But it is the 100% the #1 answer to this question. It is everything a solo should be.
