Questions/thoughts from a first time Jazz Fest attendee

1) the Eagles were outstanding
2) is there always so many trashy people there?
3) how did this year relate to others crowd-wise?
4) why do people feel the need to smoke 2 packs of cigarettes within 2 hours in a crowded space?
5) do people always show up 10 minutes before a major concert (eagles) and try to squeeze in to your area so you don't have any room to move your arms?

How do you define this, though? I know I get pretty grubby when I'm out there.
I think people who hold up their damn phones and block your view while the show is going on are the trashy ones.

bruce and the eagles each had 65K at Acura alone. not sure if that's a record, but it's close. the Fest in general is getting extremely popular, and the average attendance per day is climbing to the point that they are going to have to cap it soon if they keep hauling in big names.

To me, this was the one band where it would have been perfectly fine to sit down in the back and..."Take It Easy".

If you go on a day, particularly a Thursday or Friday, where there is not a HUGE ACT playing, you'll find the Jazz Fest experience much more enjoyable. Too many folks go only to the big stage, fight the crowds, and think this is what Jazz Fest is.
Next year, go on one of those other days, roam around, listen to folks you never heard before at the smaller stages and tents, sample the food, and have a better time.
Don't judge the Fest only be the experience of being in the biggest crowd at the biggest stage.

to be fair, a few things that i've already mentioned in another thread. i only stayed for 4 songs, and most bands get better as they go on. also, I'm not a huge eagles fan. i enjoy their hits, but that's about all i know.
but for the 4 songs i heard, their voices didn't sound all that great. and from what i read about the rest of the concert, it seemed like a push play, run through the hits, get paid, and get out.
so based on what i read/what i observed, for a headliner they were just meh. i'm sure they did put on a good show. but i expect a bit more from headliners.

They got a lot better as the concert went on. We stayed for the whole 2 hrs, ill admit it kinda felt like a push play, joe Walsh and glen fry seemed to really enjoy it, but don Henley (who has been notorious for just doing it to get paid) seemed pretty bored with it all.

i dont find the crowd to be overly trashy. People dress down cause of the weather and conditions.
and people jam in. There is only so much room. With so many stages, not everyone camps out in front of the big stage. They move from stage to stage, and occasionally, you may be in a tight squeeze. The best thing to do is embrace it.
the crowds were pretty huge for Springsteen and Eagles. Generally these type of acts with large followings will draw a huge crowd. Some times the best thing to do is go on Thurs or Fri if you cant handle the crowds.
It is kind of a culture shock of sorts the first time.

Not true at all.They put on a great show and jammed out.I'm not the biggest Eagles fan, but the gf and I both loved their set

I, for one, enjoy the smell of stale weed compounded with the accumulated body odor of thousands. Really adds authenticity to the concert-going experience

the weed doesn't bother me nearly as much as the tobacco smoke. That gets on my nerves and my gf has trouble breathing when she gets huge clouds of cigarette smoke blown in her face.

when it is that hot outside, people who would normally dress conservative, tend to show a little more skin for the sake of staying cool. There's just not much class that can be brought to a tank top, flipflops and shorts.

I wasnt really referring to what they were Wearing, mostly that they had trashy tats all over, Walked around with shirts off and shoeless, and chain smoked in a packed area. All weren't like that, just a lot where we were.
