David Allen Coe took care of this 40 years ago:

quote:

Well a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
And he told me it was the perfect country and western song
I wrote him back a letter and I told him it was not the
Perfect country and western song because he hadn't said
Anything at all about momma or trains or trucks or prison or gettin' drunk

Country music is still going strong, it's just not called "country" anymore/doesn't make it to pop radio. Off the top of my head, Jason Isbell, Drive By Truckers (their newest album was a major bounceback after some mediocre albums), The Lone Bellow, The Civil Wars, Kacey Musgraves, and Eric Church (not sure if he's on the radio or not) have all put out great work recently.

It's better than rap nowadays. Rocknroll is over. I guess that leaves us with gospel music

Rap ALL sounds the same, country is pretty dang close as well. Too bad rock is gone, I gotta listen to classic 70's or maybe some Daughtry to get into it nowadays.

Really liked country back in the 80's and 90's, then around 2000 many artists lost their contracts (such as Restless Heart, Bryan White, Warren Brothers, etc.) to get country back to its 'roots' and that's when it all started to sound the same. Too bad really.

Agree. Gotta a bunch of crybabies in this thread. Complain about country when it's all music that sucks. I listen to old classic rock mostly nowadays

i have a family member who plays with a singer who has had a couple on the charts for a few minutes, so we see a fair number of big shows. What amazes me is how many of the acts simply cannot carry a tune in a bucket. its embarrassing to watch.

It's terrible. The concert over Memorial Day weekend confirmed that for me. George Strait was the only act worth a flying frick.

not all rap sounds the same. neither does all country music. there's a shite ton of great country music that is coming out. it's just not on your FM radio mainstream country station.

This. If you look for it, you can find some good stuff out there.

FM radio has just become complete and total crap in recent years.

only of the shitty kind.

see, the OP's title isn't accurate. it's not "all country" that sounds the same.

it's bro-country. bro-country combines pop and hip hop elements and puts a fake twang on it.

that's really shitty, contrived music.

and you don't have to look hard at all. people are lazy though and will turn it to FM country for 5 minutes and determine that ALL country music sounds like that.

which is retarded.
