Just due to my preference in music I'm sure I will at some point. I've tried pretty hard to get into them but it just doesn't happen.

Oh, and I dislike most Prince and Michael Jackson and don't understand how people really get into either.

Prince is a genius and amazing guitar player.

Same here and I love the genre... Actually, I haven't gotten into too many bands in this "newer wave"... guess i was slightly bored with it. May revisit it one day and say what an idiot I was...

I will say that my taste the past year or so has come full circle and I'm listening to a lot more louder and noisier stuff... I didnt see that coming now that Im in my 40s

No other genre comes close to it, for me.

Not that unpopular an opinion. I'd vote for Unfun, but I love Dear You.

Pretty common refrain. Why is he a genius?

People love him so I'm not trashing the guy, I'm just not sure what it is I'm supposed to love.

- Acid is not necessary at every show
- The Beatles are OK
- The best rap is rarely played
- A laptop is not an instrument
- Music these days are not as bad as you old farts claim
- RHCP are miserable. Their story is interesting but their music is very meh
- Lil Wayne is a joke

He is self taught on over a dozen instruments--and has mastered most of them.

He has been composing, producing, and performing most of the music on his albums since he was 17 years old. He released five albums by the age of 24--one of them a masterpiece (1999). Not trying to take a shot, but what were you doing at 17? It was all I could do to keep my finger out of my nose in public places when I was 17.

There are few modern musicians with the talent of Prince.

If you don't like his music, that's one thing. To deny his talent and, yes, his genius, is kind of ridiculous.

Guns N' Roses is one of the best rock bands of the last 3 or 4 decades.
John Frusciante is the greatest guitarist, maybe musician, alive right now.

I didn't deny his talent, look at what I said. I did question his genius, but that's just because I don't find anything extraordinary about any music he's ever made. I'm sure he's brilliant, but in my experience there are a lot of people who claim that but never articulate why he's supposedly brilliant.

You did better than most, but that's an argument for his talent/ability, not necessarily the "genius" behind his music.
