Plush - Down in a Hole (AIC cover)

They did a good job. The lead singer doesn't have the grit or desperation that Layne Staley used to have when singing this, and maybe that's a good thing cuz unfortunately he was haunted by his drug use. Two things that I think they missed:

1) when AIC did this song, they went from a 3 here:

Bury me softly in this womb
I give this part of me for you
Sand rains down and here I sit
Holding rare flowers
In a tomb, in bloom

To a 10 here with A LOT of guitar and vocal energy:

Down in a hole and I don't know if I can be saved
See my heart I decorate it like a grave
You don't understand who they thought
I was supposed to be
Look at me now a man
Who won't let himself be

2)Cantrell shreds his guitar after Layne sings this:

Down in a hole, feelin' so small
Down in a hole, losin' my soul
I'd like to fly, but my wings have been so denied

and it's POWERFUL. I think it would have added a lot to their version but overall I liked it.

I had a final paper to write in a 4000 level a history at LSU. The topic was the horrific conditions of trench warfare in WWI at the Battle of the Somme and Verdun: I titled them paper Down In A Hole.

I actually graduated from LSU shortly afterward: I also had some real negative shite going on in my life at that same time that would haunt me for years. That song, that song means a lot to me.

Superb cover! Very well done and full of the emotional weight the song carries.

When they cover Barracuda the lead singer sounds EXACTLY like Ann Wilson. It's AMAZING!!!!
