Clare Torry makes that song though as fantastic as the instrumentals are. Her wordless vocals are amazing.

No question. I love the story she tells in "The Making Of...". She asked them what she was supposed to sing. They were very vague and told her just to ad lib a sad and mournful sound over the music. They played her the backing music once and then she went into the room to record. She thought she bombed the first take and wanted to do it again but when she went back into the control room, the band were all sitting there slackjawed at what they'd just heard. No need for another take; that'll do just fine they said.

It's the vocal counterpart to Gilmour's solo on Time, his best solo, which is fine, because I mean it to be high praise.

If you're a floyd fan like myself (obviously), this isn't technically a "hidden" gem.

One of my favorites and most underrated floyd songs has to be Summer 68.

Thanks for these. Just ordered Obscured By Clouds on vinyl after listening to the links. I was always a casual PF fan, but coming to like them more and more here lately.

Free Four is a great song too.

I recommend owning every Floyd album from Pipers to The Wall. Just wait 'til you hear Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict on Ummagumma.

There are also a lot of live bootlegs out there. You should check out some of those too. Here's a useful resource:

One of my favorites from Relics, which I bought in '75 or so:

Biding My Time

Saw the Brit Floyd live show last year - they surprised me by playing a rocking version of "Arnold Layne", the band's first recording, which was also on Relics.

ETA: found them performing it on YT: Arnold Layne

They usually throw in a older tune. I have heard them play Arnold Layne a few times. This year they have Seamus on the setlist.

How did you like Brit Floyd? I really like their show...

Not generally a fan of tribute bands, but they are fantastic musicians (they have to be) and their show was magnificently done.

In fact I'm watching them at work right now as I type this...

You were right-it was a fantastic show. I felt like I was time warped back to 1967.
Anyone who enjoys old PF/late 60's/pyschedelic music should definitely go see this show.

I'm so damn conflicted about this. Hes playing Friday night in Atlanta but I have to work all weekend starting at 8 Saturday morning. I don't have anyone to go with and honestly im not a HUGE fan of Piper and saucerful.

On the other hand, it's a living Pink Floyd member and undoubtedly the last and only time I'll ever get to see him.

Damn this decision. I've never been to a concert solo before so idk what to think about that.

I think you'll end up regretting it if you don't go. None of this music has been played for decades and he's keeping it alive for a little bit longer.

I know how you feel about going solo. I rarely go to a show by myself but for this I'd make an exception.

As for work, it's not a concert that's going to run into the wee hours. You'll drag arse a little bit Saturday but you'll survive and you'll be glad you went. I had to do a webex presentation of our newest product for a bunch of customers first thing the next day. You can damn sure pull it off if I can.

Yeah for sure. I went to The Wall by myself because all my friends were put off by the ticket price. Holy shite I'm glad I didn't miss that.

Sometimes going solo is a benefit because I can spring for better seats.

Nick Mason played for 1:45. They had an opening act so they started around 8:30. Finished at 10:15 pm and I was home by 11.

I probably go to 1/2 of the concerts by myself. I'm not there to talk but to listen to the music.
And as MT said sometimes you can get a nice single ticket seat.

You came up to an Ohio State game solo and that worked out. Well, not for the home team.
