People expecting a run-of-the-mill festival show will be wrong.

Jazz Fest isn't some new thing like Outside Lands or the epitome of a custy fest like Austin City Limits. It will be special.

Page McConnell in particular has embraced the city and made friends with several local musicians. A big funky guest appearance is likely. Imagine a "Sneakin' Sally Thru the Alley" with The Meters

They owe New Orleans, and they know it.

No need to get upset because I disagree with you.

Couple of reasons. A) Every festival set in 3.0 has been average at best. Very cookie cutter like. B) They wont have any warmup. They build to the good shows these days. If they announce a spring run leading up to it, I would change my mind.

You don't get it.

Jazz Fest isn't some custy-created bullshite like Outside Lands or Austin City Limits. It is the original. It is a festival that thrives off its host city like no other. Every year national acts comment on it.

Guests are almost expected at Jazz Fest.

Gumbo (Live 1997.07.29) very funky. One of the premier versions of the song and highlighted on their legendary 1997 summer tour.

Harry Hood (Live: 1996.04.26 Jazz Fest - New Orleans,LA) - soundboard of an above-average 'Hood

The Meter Men & Page McConnell - Cissy Strut - Page McConnell has a very tight relationship with the city, and has played several shows both with The Meter Men (aka original Meters George Porter Jr, Zigaboo Modeliste, and Leo Nocentelli) and Porter-Batiste-Stoltz. He also sat in with Widespread Panic at Jazz Fest 2008 and with funk supergroup Tyrptophunk latenight Jazz Fest 2013. One has to wonder how much of Page's influence led to the band's return to the Crescent City.

Page McConnell & the Big Easy Blowout - Do Watcha Wanna - I actually just found this. Proshot,SBD audio of an all star "Mardi Gras" benefit in Colorado 2008 featuring Russell Batiste from the Funky Meters, Papa Mali, Reed Mathis from Tea Leaf Green, and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux of the Wild Magnolias. SWEET jam! Something like this at Jazz Fest wouldn't be too shocking. Light Up Or Leave Me Alone - funk yeah!

Oysterhead - Shadow of a Man (Live: 2000.05.04 Saenger Theater - New Orleans,LA) - The supergroup consisting of Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool, and Stewart Copeland played their debut show in New Orleans during a late-night Jazz Fest show at the famed Saenger Theater. A full proshot video was recently removed from youtube, but this artifact remains.

Oysterhead - Live: 2000.05.04 Saenger Theater - New Orleans,LA - soundboard audio of the aforementioned performance. Widely-regarded as the band's best concert, this is definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of Phish, Primus, or just superior musicianship in general.

A Tips show would be incredible, but the Saenger seems like the most plausible venue for a diverse and eclectic late night show.
