Signed. Went for the phish, stayed for the fest. It was there where the Jazzfest/jamband connection was first made. In years following, silver wrapper production owned the late night scene during the fest.

It was pre-internet for most people. People weren't able to qualify themselves as music experts like so many do now because of the ability to download endless music from the webz. you actually had to seek out hard copies of records and actually attend shows. The Meters immediately followed the phish on the same stage that evening. Most phish fans exited the grounds to head to bourbon street. this blew me away. I don't expect this to be the case these days as everybody is able to hear everything on demand, you should be all up to speed.

I had so much fun in 96, I spent a full 2 weeks down there attending all 7 days at Jazzfest, plus many late night shows.

In 97 I was with a couple of unkempt friends. I have always rode with short hair. Better to be cool than look cool, I always had lots of things.

I was standing on the sidewalk on bourbon. Two NO officers came up and took down my 2 friends, leaving me alone. I had been standing next to them. The charge was obstruction of a sidewalk (read: looking like a dirty hippy). We had to av $3k wired to get them out of jail. They did absolutely nothing.

french law in the 1/4. they can make up a crime to fit the criminal. I heard another story of some wook who was eating at crystal burger on bourbon. said wook opened his burger, peeled off the pickle and proceeded to toss it to the trash can about 5 feet away. Cop arested him for molesting a cheeseburger.

Drove down from Milwaukee with a bunch of college friends, camped across the lake. Saw Phish, stayed for the Meters and the Allmans. ABB had the biggest crowd at the fest to date, filled that whole field. Roamed Boubon at night, ate fantastic food and got blasted on hurricanes. Haven't been back since, might be time!

Fun fact: In 97 I paid some dude $5 to climb his fence to get into the fair grounds.

The other six days I got in free. Twice through a hole in the outside wall of the horse stable. By the third day it was boarded up. I got in on a free ticket from a local-they get heavily discounted almost free admission. The other day I got in on a TM reciept.

All of my years of wookin experience became usefull for me in 97 when I attended all 7 days of JF for $5.

And so he found himself working his contacts through the holidays. The jam band Phish hasn't appeared at Jazz Fest since 1996. Davis wanted them back in 2014. One major hurdle: The four members of the band had planned to spend several months in 2014 working on individual endeavors, not touring as Phish.

During Phish's New Year's Eve stand at Madison Square Garden in New York three weeks ago, Davis huddled with the band's manager and booking agent backstage, hashing out how to get Phish back to the festival. Had it not worked out, he would have been missing the Acura Stage headliner on the festival's first Saturday.

"It was a big thing for Phish to decide to do this," Davis said. "A lot of people had to do a lot of work to put this together. They had to talk to everybody to see if they wanted to do it, and could do it. It's not simple to put something like this together. They're a big, big band that has a lot of moving pieces and parts."

Jazz Fest did extend an offer to OutKast late last summer, Davis said. But he was told that the duo would pass through the New Orleans area in the fall of 2013, not the spring of 2014.

OutKast's plans and tour routing eventually changed. By the time Davis learned OutKast had shifted to a spring schedule, it was too late: Another act had already been booked in the Jazz Fest slot originally intended for OutKast.
