I still enjoy seeing Phish. Granted, they don't blow my head off like they used to (although Charlotte '11 was close), but I still have a good time. I dunno, maybe it's because I've gotten old and I'm just happy to be there, since I've only had enough free time to catch 4 shows in the 3.0 era...
Exactly where I am. I don't go to be blown away from start to finish, but if I get a handful of well played classics, I leave happy. They're a nostalgia act for the most part these days, which is totally fine. It is what it is.
That said, Fuego is a pretty fun live song.

IMO there's plenty in that show to make a case for being in the top 10 of all time, but the first 45-50 minutes of the 2nd set can't be touched...near the end of those 45-50 minutes, there was a point where it sounded like they were simultaneously jamming Tweezer, Izabella, Twist, and Piper all at once, and I could barely pick my jaw up from the ground, lol...
Without a doubt top 10 show, I'd even say top 5 or 3.
Tweezer>Izabella is a contender for best jam they've ever played.
Eta: I saw a guy in Alpharetta lot this past fall wearing a Phoenix Coyotes jersey with "Auburn Hills 97" on the back of it

The last part of the Izabella jam with the stop/start is easily a top five most listened segment for me

There's a YouTube clip of Alf jamming to the part you're talking about. Pretty funny....If I was at my laptop, I'd post the link, but I can't get much done with this crappy phone...
I might've said this before, but that show was the same night as the Auburn/Tennessee SEC championship. I'd wondered if it was coincidence, or they knew what they were doing, when they closed the show playing the Tennessee fight song in AUBURN Hills, lol...

Yeah, they're not playing mind-melting stuff ala '97-'98 anymore, but they're certainly playing with more focus & discipline than they did right before the hiatus, which was starting to become a borderline shitshow....

For a long time, Auburn Hills '97 didn't get much love, apart from the people who were actually there. Hampton and Dayton always seemed to be the "sexy" picks, while Auburn Hills barely got a mention. For years, I lobbied hard that Auburn Hills was the dark horse of dark horses, so I'm glad to see people finally coming around to give it the props it deserves. It probably got ignored because people looked at the setlist on paper, saw the 2nd set, and thought "meh, too many new songs"....their loss!

Fall 97 is probably my favorite phish tour. I was at 2 of the worcester shows. That runaway jim was fun.
