No you don’t have to ‘read’ music if you know the chords for the guitar
I also know that plenty of other musicians don’t read music - sometimes it’s obvious in their music
Just bc it’s popular doesn’t mean the music itself is good (we all know that)

Brian Wilson wanted to top Rubber Soul (the best Beatles album) so he wrote Per Sounds. A good album and counter but Brian Wilson essentially blew his brains out after listening to the Beatles next album, Revolver.
