First, practice slooooooowly. A lot of playing guitar is finger memory. Playing it slowly helps to ingrain that memory.

This.^ We all have to learn to crawl. Then learning to stand up.Then we try to walk. And we fall. But,we keep practicing til we can.

Y'all are getting bombarded with info.

I'm getting little nuggets of wisdom out it.

If you keep a love for playing the guitar, and keep at it;you will be rewarded.

Yes. Yes we are.

Like the other guy, I tried to play along with a song that I am leaning. Its has a fairly simple intro then there is the chorus. I just have the song playing and try to keep up with he chord changes and do simple strums. Just once on the down beat. Im not at a point where I can do the chord changes and do the correct strumming while going at the song speed. It still feels like I am playing along with the song even though Im just doing basic down strokes.

I will go from there but for now, changing the chords is getting easier and just that is satisfying my ego.

"Wish You We're Here" is a fun Song.I kind of cheat and play it the easy way.

I just start strumming G to the rhythm in my Brain. Then change to
C"So,so you think you can D tell,Heaven from Am Hell.Blue skies from Gpain.
Can you tell a green DFeild, from a cold steel Am rail;A smile from a veil.CSo you think you can GTell......

eta:It scratches all our egos.I kind of take it for granted after 18 years.but, the majority of people can't play a guitar.

I didn't take it up til age 40.We've got a great advantage.Think of all the Songs that you can play in your Brain.

It takes a little while, but you'll have the tools to learn to play any Song that you want to.

can Anyone suggest youtubers that teach songs with chords charts inlaid in videos? I’ve found these help me the most, but are harder to find.

I've never really looked for that.

I search for "Chords and Lyrics to (whatever song)".

The Sites that I usually use are E-Chords,Ultimate Guitar, and Cowboy Lyrics.

At the top they have the Chords;and it shows how to make the Chord.

It's written out like my Post above;what word to make the Chord change on.

That's the way I learn Songs.I find 1 that isn't too difficult;and uses Chords that I either know,or can learn.

eta: On Ultimate Guitar you can change the Key to either get it in the key you sing in,or just to see the options you have to play the Song. What Chords are used.

So I have what may be a stupid question but here goes

I have a acoustic/electric guitar. I have never tested the "electric" output to see if it even works. I do not have a amp. Here goes. Can I plug my pair of headphones into that jack to "test" and make sure it works?

Headphones have to be amplified.

Some acoustic guitar pick ups have a battery, and give a slight signal boost. I think if he has this type of pick up (probably does), he will be able to hear his guitar slightly, just enough to know that he is giving a signal at his output jack. He wouldn't be able to turn the volume up or anything.
You can't do it with an electric guitar.

Did you try plugging in your headphones? Did it work?
I have never tried plugging straight into a guitar before, but I did plug into an effects pedal once, and I could just barely hear my guitar through that. The things you will do when you are bored..

I tried. But Headphones = 1/8" jack

Taylor Fiddle = 1/4" socket

I think we have all had that problem

Change the 9v. I had a tele that just drains them even if I'm not playing it.

Yep,

All my amplified acoustics have an inside battery which sucks to change. So I went with a cable that has an on/off for those hours of staying plugged up in church. Added benefit was no pops if you need to plug and unplug while the sound guy's zoned out or not looking. Plus it put's you back in charge of when you're powered up.

If you have a stereo system, you should be able to plug into an input jack and play through your stereo speakers. I used to do that all the time when I was younger.
