All the guys in Floyd were great musicians. Tons of their music was without lyrics. David Gilmour is and always has been one of the best guitarist....

The keyboard play, Sax and use of synthesizers is excellent..

Rush.

Not even a big Rush fan, but damn?

Yeah, I like all of about 5 songs, but I just watched the show on 2112 and Moving Pictures. Damn those guys are good. I only wish they would have spent more time on stuff like Limelight and Fly By Night. Selfish-I know.

Well son of a.....?

If you're gonna go personal preference, I will throw Pearl Jam against the wall and see what sticks.

This isn't exactly true. Roger Waters was an average bassist at best from a technical standpoint and Pink Floyd used session drummers on tracks that Nick Mason couldn't pull off.

Okay - whatever floats your boat..

I mean, Rush for instance, are obviously talented musicians but the songs are not there for me... The Police are all very talented musicians... economical and tight... with the songwriting to go with it..

Oysterhead.

Stewart Copeland one of the best drummers ever
Les Claypool is probably the sickest base player of all time
Trey Anastasio is a solid guitar player

Dream Theater for me. I don't know if they are considered a supergroup or not. These guys are all first tier musicians. Back in the " day" , Deep purple was very good.

Define 'supergroup' ?

To me this has always meant a new band made of already established (star) musicians

Yea that's exactly how I view a supergroup.

Them Crooked Vultures

Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)

Blind Faith
Eric Clapton (Cream), Ginger Baker (Cream), Steve Winwood (Traffic) and Ric Grech (Family)

Traveling Wilburys

Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
David Crosby (The Byrds), Graham Nash (The Hollies), Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield) and Neil Young (Buffalo Springfield)

The Highwaymen

Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson

I was thinking of Organic bands that rose to the top of the industry not the one off all star type bands

From wikipedia:

quote:

A supergroup is a music group whose members are already successful as solo artists or as part of other groups or well known in other musical professions.
