I remember our local store had Blizzard Of Oz only as an import for awhile, and if it had performed poorly overseas, it's possible we might not be having this convo right now because it never would've seen the light of day as a widespread release here. Fortunately, the rest of the world responded favorably, and no doubt Randy was a big part of their love for the album...

Yeah, one minute my friends & I were psyching ourselves up for the show, and the next minute we were in stunned silence after hearing the news. Like I said earlier, the show still went on, but we passed on going because our hearts weren't into it anymore. Little did I know in hindsight, that turned out to be my best and only shot at seeing him live...

Front of the shirt. Apparently Texas-only edition. Now I wish I still had it even more…

I am .wah: over this.

Yep. Me too. It sucks.

I did see the back-together Black Sabbath one time in 1999 at Izod Arena (Meadowlands).

Good one for sure.

But I've never seen Ozzy and Zakk. In October 18, I had bought FRONT ROW for Ozzy at the Hollywood Bowl (2 bucket list items in one). A few days before the concert, got the email saying "something wrong with Ozzy's wrist, he has to cancel, rescheduled for 2019". As we know, that never happened. And now this.

Hard damn luck right there. Yeah and even though I’ve seen Ozzy solo six times I never have seen him with Randy or Zakk. The first five times in the 80’s were with Jake E. Lee who I did like a lot. 2011 was with that cat Gus G.

I did finally at least get to see Zakk last summer when BLS opened for Anthrax up in Minneapolis.

Ozzy was very, very, very, very fortunate to have Randy Rhodes fall in his lap 6 months after getting fired from Sabbath.

Imagine the stress of trying to go solo, then Randy appears.

Rhoads. And yes, I would agree. Ozzy was in a bad place and Randy was a Godsend for him.

Probably a damn good point.

Yeah that had to be just fricking crushing.

At the time, I said, "see THIS is why I was spending a lot of dough to see Ozzy in the first place...one of these times, the announcement will just be that he died".

I'm assuming most here have read the Ozzy autobiography? It's one of the funniest books I've ever read.

Yeah that’s definitely a different one than the one I saw. No doubt that sucker is a rarity. Did you find a way you can order it?

Legitimate concern for sure.

Sadly enough I have not. I really do need to get it.

I'll always remember 2 things about OZZY performing LIVE. Dude had an obsession for throwing buckets of water into the crowd, and jumping up & down (hopping) like a frog. MF'er loved performing but was crazy on stage

Yep!! And he would also clap to the beat a ton every show while kind of hopping along.

I used to have his stage mannerisms down to a T back then. One night in probably 1985 a buddy of mine and I consumed some pot brownies and then cranked up some Ozzy. I went into full-on Ozzy stage mode, lip syncing the lyrics, complete with all of the above, except the water of course. Oh yeah! Also the thrusting the peace signs in the air constantly to the beat. This particular friend had not seen Ozzy live but had seen video. He was just vegging on the couch laughing his arse off but loving it.

Don’t know if you saw in my long-arse OP but last time I saw him in 2011 he didn’t need the buckets as he had a mack daddy suppersoaker he was dousing us with. I was pretty drunk but quite sure it was actually foamy.

Great stories!

I only saw him once and it was a Black Sabbath show at Ozzfest. 2004 or something like that?

Yeah that’s awesome though. Jealous of you folks who saw him with Sabbath and also with Randy.

Ha!! I’m just remembering another worthwhile nugget from the ‘84 Biloxi show.

So I used to make some amazing signs. I’m not artistic in the least but if it was something that could be done with a compass and straight edge then I could make it. Well Ozzy’s logo is something that is doable like that. So for this particular show I made a sign on a standard poster board with the help of my friend that I was going to the show with. I did a perfect Ozzy at the top of the sign in his standard logo from the early 80s. Well my friend actually was very artistic so below the Ozzy I had him add the word RULES. I forget the exact color I used for Ozzy ( I think gray with black trim) but he did the RULES in blood red with a dripping effect off of the letters. It looked pretty damn amazing.

Well as I mentioned in the OP we were right at the wall. I was periodically holding the sign up and it caught his attention pretty quickly. Sometime during the second or third song he leaned over and was reaching out for the sign. Of course I handed it to him and he started trotting around the stage bringing the sign down and then thrusting it up into the air for the whole crowd to see. Of course the crowd roared each time he held it up. And of course my buddy and I were high-fiving, pretty proud of ourselves. I was looking forward to getting it back from him and having stories to tell. Alas, after a few minutes of him firing up the crowd with it he was walking in the other direction away from me and just tossed it out into the crowd a good ways away from me. I still remember watching it just float in the air then disappear into the crowd. I was a little bit in disbelief but also honestly not surprised at all. So bottom line was we put some work into making a great sign for the show, he took the sign that we made and worked the crowd with it, and then some other lucky fricker in the crowd took it home for a souvenir.

Thanks a lot Ozzy!!

Yeah, I like his solo stuff fine, but I was happier to say I had seen Black Sabbath than an Ozzy solo show.

I’m sure given the choice of either/or, plenty would agree with you.

I used to wear this concert shirt from the No More Tours tour. A buddy's wife washed it with some colors and turned it pink.

Loving all of the stories.

Anybody else take the time to decode the messaging on the front, middle and back of the Speak of the Devil album, or am I the only Ozzy nerd that had the time and patience(stoned) to do it?
