New Orleans Guitarists: where do you get your guitars serviced and worked on?

Jeremiah at guitar center was actually a pretty good guitar tech but I think he's gone.
I tried a little place in mid city last time I switched out pickups but he fricked up my guitar and I wasnt happy about it.
Any recommendations?

Not one person on this board plays guitar and gets it worked on in NOLA?

Bywater Music - Paul, the owner, is great.

Who was the guy chiming in on a few guitar threads? He was a luthier in the area I believe. May have been in BR though?
He had like 100 posts. Lurker who basically chimed in on pointed gear questions. Seemed legit and not too over the top about pushing his business? He let you know what he did, but that was about it?

Go see Melvin at C & M Music. He's one of the owners and is a guitar player (BTW...he has the most incredible private collection you've ever seen). Melvin owns 5 stores and has some of the best techs in this area.
ETA: He works out of his store on Williams Blvd.

Sorry I haven't lurked in a while, I'm a busy boy. I'm in BR and I simply don't know any NOLA repair/tech guys well enough to give them a both-thumbs-up.
But if I was shopping a guitar tech blind with no references, I'd ask them if they do acoustic neck resets and if they happen to have before/after photos and or an example you can test-drive. That is a somewhat common but pretty intensive structural repair that directly influences a guitar's action and playability. Your hands and eyes will be able to tell you how well it was done.
And if a repairman can reset a neck, he can probably do routine bench work like pickup changes, nut replacement, general set-ups, etc., blindfolded.

Melvin from C & M has a retarded arse private guitar collection. I'm talking guitars worth $10,000-30,000 and a lot of them

Is my favorite guy to talk to in the city.
I have no idea why I didn't think to go over there, seeing as I go at least once a month.
Last time I was over there he showed me his newest purchase. He got wood reclaimed from a structural beam off of bourbon street and had a buddy of his make it into a guitar. It was fricking awesome looking.

Got a pic? Or a website? Sounds awesome.
I've always wondered. Was Brazilian Rosewood ever used for other things? Meaning, is there Brazilian rosewood around there waiting to be reclaimed and turned into a guitar body?

I think at one time it was used for furniture also. I have a guitar made in 1987 with Brazilian rosewood back and sides. It had to have been one of the last ever made with that wood because they stopped exporting it (legally) in the 70's. The grain is absolutely striking regardless of how good of a tonewood it was.
That said, not all Brazilian rosewood is suitable for use as a tonewood. So I'm not sure how feasible it would be to take a headboard and turn it into a guitar.

True. And has to be cut along grain.
I don't know what that cut is called. But all backs and sides have grain running linear.

It could be that nobody likes you.
If you send your guitars to me, I will gladly "Relic" them for you for a nominal fee.
