Your direct quote was that “literally hundreds” of guitar players could play solos that Nuno plays…I disagree. I think you and I hear music very differently, and that’s okay.

Hating everything Metallica does is a meme at this point.

Track sounds like it came right off ...And Justice for All

Do you have to give credit where credit is due and this is a good song and I really thought Hardwired was a good album

These guys are pushing 60 now, so we just have to appreciate what they gave us and we will find a few diamonds in the rough with the new stuff

72 Seasons single released today. Another damn good song on first listen. Nice solo with harmony mixed in and cool main riff and chorus.

Another one that just sounds like a list of riffs to me with the lyrics of a 13 year old. I read a review earlier that said the whole album "goes hard", contains no ballads, and has very little actual melodies. So I guess the whole album is going to be another we're not old so we're doing thrash collection of Guitar Center riffs and 1 minute long intros that repeat the same thing over and over with some little 5 second random double bass change that makes no sense. I kept holding out hope the last 20 years that Metallica could still write a really epic song, or hell even a really good one, but not to my ears. These new songs actually made me laugh at how cartoonish they were. Melt over

Once again, the song is good, but I hate the sound…there is no warmth whatsoever, everything sounds so harsh with no bottom end, and it’s just hard to listen to bands try to sound “heavy” now without de-tuning….I’ve noticed that most everyone here hates every song by every artist, so I thought what the hell, I may as well join in.

It sounds like a completely re-worked & more complex version of the song Hardwired to Self Destruct. That being said I still like it.

The fact that I was forced to learn to drive by my buddy through Houston (Ruston to Corpus Christi) while listening to Seek and Destroy and the rest of Kill 'em All explains a TON about how I drive now.

This is their biggest issue and has been for at least two decades.

Absolutely agree. Going all the way back to Death Magnetic their guitar tone is, I don't want to say thin, but just flat. It's just one straight line instead of digging down into palm mites or getting that bellowing E chord James always used to get. For all the hype the IIC+ got as well as the Triaxis, I loved James rhythm tone on Garage Inc and that was actually a Wizard.

Update on the new album, song lengths have been released. One song is 11 minutes...I already have a headache thinking about a 6 minute intro

No idea what you are talking about, as this simply does not describe the reality of the past couple of albums. There's all sorts of palm muting and "bellowing Es".

I'm talking about the tone of the palm muting, and their E's and other power chords sound nothing like they used to to my ears

They've used lots of different tones. e.g. I think the guitar on Ride the Lightning sounds kind of brittle and thin. Still doesn't make the album not an alltime great.

AJFA probably had the best palm muting...but are we really wanting to bring Rasmussen back?

Why yes, yes we are…and if we can’t get him at least get Bob Rock. The AJFA and black album guitar tones are the best in recorded metal history. They were msssive. These little weak, thin tones James gets now are just embarrasing compared to the aforementioned albums.

Not a bit. All of the decisions with tone come down to Hetfield anyway so it doesn't really matter who produces. Honestly if I had my preference he'd mic up the old IIC+ and play straight out of the speaker if they're going to stick with this thrashy theme. Everything is so digitalized now. It's also going to be interesting to see Lars try to duplicate these drums live...

I really wish I knew what you were hearing. You are describing the intro tone to "That Was Just Your Life" as "weak and thin"?
