Great show, his live show is more up tempo. Not much fluff and filler, they just moved on to the next song. His band is really tight. Also, he can really move, in a Van Morrison, low key James Brown sort of way. In a different venue, I think the show is even livelier. Overall great show.

I saw them a couple of years ago and it is still one of the most fun shows I’ve been to.

I work with a guy who went to high school with him.

Comes back to Hermann, MO when he can. His mom still lives there.

I’ll start with saying that I have a dislike for “blackbird presents” shows. I think they are pricey and sometimes deceptive with their special guest listings and such that they pump up

That said, it was a solid show. Previous review was accurate- uptempo, tight... polished was the word that came to mind last night. If any knock I tend to enjoy a show that’s either a bit raw and unpredictable but I’d highly scripted at least really purposeful in that scripting. It just kind of felt polished without being purposeful. That’s nit picky though and was a good set.

The foundations of funk opener was fun but took a minute to get sound on track through the evening

I was at the Orpheum last night instead. Carl’s tiny universe was excellent, but I actually greatly preferred the two openers: carl from My Morning jacket, and Durand jones & the Indications. shite was absolute fiya

I really enjoyed the show tonight but agree it was very scripted. Very little interaction and no jam/solos. Overall I think it was really good. I was hoping to see them play with Pres hall like they have at other times but oh well. Would definetly see them again.
