The music boards thoughts on mot Crüe. I’m a really big fan of these guys. I have Vince in my top 7 vocalists all time and I fell like they get pushed in with the rest of the generic hair metal of the 80s when they’re really above that. I feel like they are only second to GUNS N ROSES! Of the 80s and I was wondering what you guys though of the them.

I agree people like to shite on them for some reason but they are just different from the other guys from that time. They put out some quality work that only GNR eclipsed when they were out.

I’ve been a Crue fan since ‘83 and have seen many of their shows. Best Hair Metal Band to make it off the Sunset Strip other than GNR. I’ve also seen Vince Neil live a couple of times in the past 2-3 years solo. I enjoyed those shows just for the novelty of it and because I was able to watch Hair Metal royalty up close and personal (this includes Dana Strum). His vocal abilities now, and his physical appearance leave a LOT to be desired. He either owes a lot of people a lot of money to continue touring as a solo artist or he genuinely loves it that much. Still have a lot of respect for Vince as a vocalist due to the way he can still work the audience. Nikki Sixx is a songwriting powerhouse and an organizational genius, Mick Mars is still a massively talented guitarist, and I wouldn’t hesitate in putting Tommy Lee up against some of the best of the best drummers in the world including Neil Peart of Rush.

Mötley Crue has been my favorite band since the beginning and I’ll always hold them in high regard for everything they’ve accomplished including quality song writing, kick arse riffs, larger than life pyro driven stage shows and of course, 100+ million records sold.

Two questions for you:

1. Heard about the March 22nd premiere of “The Dirt” on Netflix?

And...

2. Why the frick have they never been nominated for the RNR Hall? The Hall brass collectively must be a bunch of super political jackasses who for whatever reason have blackballed the band.

I would say that's a stretch. Vince didn't have much range, but he was unique and a solid frontman (at times).

The band relied upon Nikki too much for songs and he was a notoriously unreliable drug addict. At the end of the day, they were the prototype for GNR.

As a Def Leppard fan, how do you think I feel, then?

I really liked their first two records as a kid, but ~'83 my musical taste shifted a lot when my older cousin turned me onto REM's Murmur... So, there's probably a part of me that has a sentimental attachment to their early stuff..

While I can and still will enjoy the odd song or two from them (or that genre in general), I never really listen to that stuff... And for the past 30 + years I'm probably more familiar with all their crap offstage, than anything they've done onstage...

The first two albums get regular play on my turntable and have since they came out in the 80's. One of my favorite bands from that time.

Cant wait to see the Dirt. I read Nikki's book Heroin Diaries last year and it opened my eyes to the inner workings of the band. What a mess.

Because the HOF are a bunch of wannabe hipster arse clowns from Rolling Stone. They hate bands like Rush, Kiss, and Motley even though those bands are huge, and sold a bazillion records and influenced a ton more people than some hipster shite like Velvet Underground, who had one great album but never really did anything.

The drummer was the best musician in the band.

First album is the best album.

Not a hair band.

Last album is very underrated.

I'd say Too Fast and Shout were more glam rock and not hair band but by Theatre of Pain, they were establishing the trend of what was happening. They were no doubt the most kick-arse of the hair bands. But they were.

Here’s what I see:

Too Fast For Love was basically a punk rock demo, but that’s what makes it so great.

Shout at the Devil was really a metal album. Theater of Pain, Girls Girls Girls and Dr. Feelgood were all Hair Metal.

A lot of the stuff in the 90’s was experimentation precipitated by the popularity of grunge, alternative and industrial metal.

I wasn’t around during that time so I feel like my thoughts don’t hold as much weight as some of the older folks but I always put the Crüe said hard rock genre as GNR
