My old Onkyo died. Replacement???

AV receiver? Wife and I decided to spend our usual Christmas $$$ on each other on getting the home system back. She’s even onboard as she has grown tired of only listening to television speakers.
I would post in the audiophile thread but it appears heavy on the PHILE aspect. The gear that they are discussing is just out of my price point, to one or two zeroes out of my price point.
AV receiver budget is 500 bucks at the top. That puts the usual commercial suspects in the discussion. Onkyo, Denon, Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer.
Also I last researched any of this with my onkyo. About 14 years ago. HDMI was just getting its bugs worked out, blue tooth with regards to home theater and music was in infancy. Streaming wasn’t even a common word yet. You just “blue-toothed” everything.
Dolby was the primary sound format. With THX being the tip top.
‘Twas a simpler time.
My “wants”?
5.1 surround. 7.2 is great but overkill for my house.
100 watts per channel. Have good wired and mounted rear speakers. My powered sub died as well. Also want new mains/fronts. I always said I would replace my old speakers when they died. Damn you Sears scratch and dent!! They will not die. I’ve tried to blow them out. Got them when I was 15. I think I’ve been good enough to get a new pair.

Adding on to this...looking for a receiver also...
Have a Rega 3 and rega Fono MM stage to hook in...
I have upgraded my turntable, but my cheap old (but consistent) Sony has all but given out.
Would like to stream music also if possible. It is only audio, I do not hook in my tv if that matters.

Onkyo went to shite so look elsewhere. Budget is $500 for receiver? They are all pretty much the same at that price. I’d go Yamaha or Denon. Do you want floorstanders or bookshelf speakers and what’s the budget? Same for the sub, budget.

Budget up to $1,500, but would like to keep to around 1,000 for something good...I have floor and shelf speakers (some old Onkyo that I will be replacing over the next year and some Klipsch right now).
Not sure how much it matters, but mostly listen to Beach Boys, Stones, country (Jason Boland, Jesse Daniel) and Motown and a some Heavy Metal (Testament)

Speakers? I have OLD floorstanding. Book shelf would be nice. But floor standing again is fine. I have always had shitty Sears speakers so anything is going to be an upgrade. Budget 400 bucks for a pair??
Sub? I had an old JBL powered sub which died as well, Or it is a problem with the amp that is dying? Was literally probably Tree-fiddy for that one. Wont go higher.

I would check out the AVR section at Accessories4less. You can filter on price and several features. Looks like they have Denon, Marantz, Yamaha which are all solid. The AVR brand selection has withered over the last few years as people move to soundbars and ditch them.
Crutchfield of course is one of the classic places to check and compare, and has a few AVRs on sale right now.

They fit in your budget. Look at SVS as well. Your budget works for their bookshelf speakers but not their subs. You’ll generally find more value in an internet direct company like Emotiva or SVS than a mainstream brand like Polk or Klipsch.

I heard they also give you a 1 month in home testing period. You can return them if you dont like them for a full refund. Interesting.
I know you answered my thread below about a new system and I appreciate the advice..
Still looking around. Opening up my speaker search a little more. I am going to start my system with 3 purchases. A set of floor speakers, a streaming device and a amp/preamp/receiver.
Trying to work on the break down of where I will get the best bang for my money...

I recently had to rebuild ny audo system (moved overseas and sold off my old stuff). Bought a Cambridge Audio CXA61 receiver and a companion Cambridge CXN Streamer. For speakers, went with the Elac UNiFi 2.0 model. Rega 3 turntable, too. Total cost was approx. $3700.

Can you elaborate?
Onkyo was/is my go to brand for receivers and I might be in the market soon to replace an old Harmon Kardon AVR in my basement. No need for the V part of that anymore, just want something for audio.

Onkyo had a lot of board failures throughout its product line. Specifically the HDMI board. Since then they've declared bankruptcy. There are more reliable options out there. If looking for just audio, consider a nice integrated amplifier.

I might be wrong here but did Denon acquire Onkyo several years back when Onkyo’s QC was in the crapper? I had one quit on me within my warranty period and Best Buy wasn’t taking them in for repair at the time because of the merger between the two companies until everything was finalized.
I ended up purchasing a Marantz Slim Line and couldn’t be happier.

Bump for new question.
I believe this amp will have to unpowered signal outputs one for a subwoofer and the other i believe is for a center channel.
I may be incorrect entirely. About the Center. Is there a decent powered center channel. I have a good powered sub that I will troubleshoot with the new amp or replace.
