There was a couple songs of theirs where I thought this sounds ok. Not my cup of tea, but whatever it sounds better than the other shite she listens to. But man all of their songs sound exactly the same and it’s grating my nerves bad. And the more I listen to it the more juvenile the lyrics all are. Like 12 year olds trying to be artsy or something.
Oh well. She likes Tool though.

The lyrics are simple, but incredibly relatable. I mean, listen to “Stressed Out”. There’s nothing complicated to the lyrics, but they’re genuine and relatable.

That shite is terrible. JFC....and I'm not even old. I just have enough sense to know better.

Well, there's no accounting for taste, I guess. I dig 21 Pilots' vibe and Mutemath is a fantastic band. MM live shows are energy from start to finish and their drummer is a monster.

I watched a video on YouTube recently where someone did a thing on "how to write a 21 Pilots Song" and it was amazing.
If I can find it I will post it later.
They nailed it and it is hilarious.

Watch this and you'll appreciate 21 Pilots a little more.
Nah. All I saw was Mutemath making pedestrian radio rock listenable.

I mean that's literally their target demographic. Which is fine because people have been making boatloads of money off of that demo for years.

I like that Level of Concern song.

The lyric is “Good Ol’ Days”
The song is about being a broke, stressed out, insecure 20-something who looks back longingly on how simple life was during childhood. Who hasn’t once been stressed with bills and, for a moment, wanted to be a kid again, riding bikes with your friends and playing pretend in a tree house. It’s an innocent little song.

I deal with the exact same thing with my son. 21P is his favorite band, so he picks it when it's his turn to select a song in the car. I feel the same way you do: it's better than the shite he could be listening to, so I'm ok with it; however, it's formulaic repetitive nonsense that starts to irk me.
I will add this. It's music that is a great gateway to better music. I feel I listened to the same type of stuff at 11, and I also loved the classic rock that my dad listened to. As I grew older this directed me to appreciate great music rather than lead me down the spiral of bubblegum pop and radio hip hop.

I mean, when I was 11, I was listening to backstreet boys, n-sync, and nelly. By the time I was 13, I was into Nirvana, blink 182, Yellowcard, Zeppelin, and Hendrix. Kids tend to grow out of the pop music they listen to when they’re 10-12 and graduate to better music which they make crucial memories to in their teens and early 20’s.

Indeed. I still remember my older cousin giving me a hard time for liking Richard Marx
I think I was 10 when he hit it big, and I was a huge fan. It wasn't until I was in 8th grade that I started to find my way through the music scene out of the pop and into the talent. So yeah, 13 is when I finally found my way as well. Seems about right

My daughter did the same to me a few years ago. I took her to see them in Nola and I came away with a very different perspective. They put on a great show.
