I'm talking live performances that are truly cringeworthy. And not amateur stuff, actual bands that make you embarrassed to watch (nb4lolwsp)

The Replacements performance on SNL in '86, that earned them a lifetime ban, was so uncomfortably awesome... drunk as shite, and cursing at the crowd... at the end, when everyone comes out, no one will come near paul... it is so awkward...

I would go with that Doors concert that's been playing on Palladia. I want to throw tomatoes at Jim for most of it.

i'd actually say this is so embarrassing, it's no longer embarrassing, lol....check out the brian jonestown massacre's viper room gig (in front of many major label reps) in the documentary 'dig!', and watch a major trainwreck ensue... great movie, and you don't need to be a BJM fan (or dandy warhols, who are also in it) to enjoy it.

I'm a huge St. Vincent fan, but I agree that it was pretty awkward. I saw her at The Tabernacle in Atlanta a few weeks before that and the show was amazing.
Pretty much all SNL performances feel awkward to me, though. It kind of feels like you're sitting there watching a concert by yourself, with a band who doesn't really want to be there.

Metallica playing One on Stern a while back sounded pretty rough. James forgets some lyrics at the end, Kirk and Lars sound pretty sloppy at times.

I was gonna mention this. After Kiedis decided to sing more - along with the caterwauling backgrounds, that was tough to witness.
Maybe add The Fray's bizarre, dissonant version of the Anthem at the Final Four a couple years back.
