If anyone can do it then haven’t they? I’d say they were very prolific at writing and making number 1 hits

Their junk gets glossed over because of their history. Any schmuck capable of picking up a pen and a piece of paper can write lyrics on a level with "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah."

So, you're just going to sit there and pretend that all they wrote was bubblegum pop and they didn't write Eleanor Rigby, A Day in the Life, Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Yesterday, Norwegian Wood, etc.?

I'll give you credit for nearly being able to spell "Ignorant".

Springsteen was pretty amazing early in his career. After he became a star - not really, but he deserves serious credit for cutting Nebraska after he'd already made a name for himself. Hating Springsteen now is just being conventional and lazy.

Nope, like I said I don't hate them. I have probably close to ten of their albums but none of those albums land in my top 100 albums in my collection. I think you have it backwards. The people who think the Beatles were the greatest band ever pretend they never wrote any bubblegum pop at all.

John Lennon wAs an artist sin equal. He was not the musician McCartney was, but but was far superior in creativity.

Well, you have to be pretty damn creative to see anything in Yoko Ono worth settling down with.

Taylor Swift by a country mile.

Adele is overated but she has produced a few really good recordings (the "Skyfall" James Bond theme comes to mind). Adele has real talent but seems to fall prey to vulgar commercialism.

Janis Joplin. Her only decent album was "Pearl." The rest of her stuff vocally sounded like a cat being tortured.

Maybe today, but early in his career through The River album, he was putting out some very good music. Darkness on the Edge of Town is a great album. Born to Run is an exceptional album as well.

This. I had all of his albums through "The River," and enjoyed every one. Saw him twice in concert at the Assembly Center (1978 & 1980).

I think many here dump on him because of his politics.

Why I quit listening to the Leftist hypocrite. He once wrote songs that folks could relate to, but he's since become a full-on Communist.

Not true. She had a hereditary heart condition that killed both her mother AND father. She would have died young even if she looked like Michelle Phillips.

ETA: Cass Elliot died at 32 in the same flat owned by Harry Nilsson that Keith Moon, also 32, would die in a few years later.

The Beatles were legit, but only starting with the album "Rubber Soul" in 1965. Then Revolver and Sgt Peppers, and the White Album and Abbey Road. All great music.

But their early work, while immensely popular, was wanting in aesthetic quality. Their first few albums had plenty of covers of earlier American rock and roll hits and original songs which were catchy, but trivial, pop.

"I Want To Hold Your Hand" was praised for unusual chord modulation, but its chord changes pale in comparison to some earlier hits, notably "It's My Party" by Lesley Gore.

Springsteen is a mediocre musician and songwriter and is elevated to the pantheon of American greats mostly because Baby Boomers from the Eastern seaboard wouldn't know good music if it shoved themselves up their collective buttholes.

I agree 100%. I can do a great Springsteen impression when I'm constipated and make the guttural, grunting, trying to pass a huge turd noise. Overrated AF.
