I actually enjoy watching videos of him going thru gear like on rig rundown, Norman's rare guitars, or just his personal collection. He's very into the history and gear himself and it makes for an entertaining watch. His chops are up there for sure. And the tones he gets are amazing.

His music/songwriting....he wasn't really blessed with that talent to match the techincal guitar playing I guess. It comes on and I won't want to change it or anything. But you'll pretty much never see me search it out.

The hate for the Edge is palpable but ridiculous.
I don't know. Not that I hate. Just really not impressed.

Watched this documentary film, 'It Might Get Louder' with d'Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White. The whole thing I kept thinking how did Page get rooked into this. And he did it with a straight face. . . such a potential actor. Although he might have gotten upstaged by Jack pretending to belong there.

Yes. Thank you. I was trying to think of that “documentary.” I was shocked that Page didn’t decline to be a part of it.

To the OP: Prince.

Every time someone posts the George Harrison tribute “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” we have to hear about how great Prince was as a guitarist.

He wasn’t. And that guitar “solo” isn’t great.

He was, however, an otherwise great musician.

“Jimmy Page is an excellent producer. Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin II are classics. As a player, he’s very good in the studio. But I never saw him play well live. He’s very sloppy. He plays like he’s got a broken hand and he’s two years old. But if you put out a good album and play like a two-year-old live, what’s the purpose?”

*My opinion: Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarists ever. Yes-his live Led Zeppelin shows were sloppy a lot of the times (at least the ones I’ve watched), but his artistry and innovation cannot be denied.

Wow. What an awful, hateful, statement. Are you the guy who wished Eric had been on the helicopter instead of Stevie Ray?

Everything I've heard from Jimmy Page live has been fantastic, but you know, it's not like they officially release the bad stuff.

But I'd also say that he is the only guitar player in the band, and obviously you can do a lot more stuff in the studio than live, so a lot of the Zeppelin studio guitar parts aren't even feasible live with one guitar player. But everything I've heard tells me he did a damn good job trying.

Neil's an entertainer, riffs verse lyrics delivery, and not gymnastic guitarist. And not even the best guitarist when Stills was around. Who I've heard say they (guitarists he knew) were trying to figure out how Doc did it and they'd fill up place to learn. So I'm not sure Neil would disagree.

Agreed but he shouldn’t be on a list of most overrated guitarist ever.

There a lot of people who think he's a great guitarist. He's not.
