Tell me about this word or words that black people aren't allowed to use under any circumstances.

You're being hypocritcal and racist by thinking this way. It's pretty simple, really.

I’ve got to ask though... what does winning this argument look like for you?

Even if we accept you are right here.... Of all the hypocritical or illogical or misunderstood issues in the world, is there a goal to planting your flag on this one specifically?

The goal is supposed to be equality, right?

Can't have that shite without everyone playing by the same set of rules.

However believe he was leaning more toward decency.

It’s not detached from reality. It is reality. Whether you want to accept that it’s their word and it’s frowned upon for white people to say it in our country is completely on you.

Do you have any other rules for what certain Americans can do but others can’t?

It might be your reality. If it is, your reality is illogical.

So a different set of rules depending on what race someone is?

Thats basically the definition of racism

No, it’s not the definition of racism.

The definition of racism:
Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group.

Treating someone different (having a separate set of rules) simply because of their race is literal racism.

Claiming that black people are the only ones who can say a certain word is a racist action, whether you like it or not.

First off, these aren’t my rules. If I’m the first person to let you know that a famous white person using that word is going to get them in trouble, then I don’t know what to tell you.

I’m in the camp of “it’s all okay or none of it is”.

There shouldn’t be a paper bag test for who is allowed to say a common word. I think we could get into context and intent as a way to weed out bad actors, but that leaves room for subjectivity in the decision-making and I’m not a big fan of that. Subjectivity breeds inconsistency and a lack of predictability.

Never heard of him before. He sounds like every other country artist. They’re a dime a dozen.

So in the field of inequality you are going with either that you can’t say the word, or they can, as a major issue that should be addressed?

I guess it depends on your philosophy of equality of opportunity (equal treatment) vs equality of outcome (equity). I personally subscribe to the former because I believe the methods required to achieve the latter end up causing more discrimination, animosity, and injustice than they fix.

These policies often start out innocent, but quickly morph into being more about revenge and putting the boot on the other foot rather than eliminating oppression. Equity is merely a nice word for trading places between oppressors and the oppressed. The real solution, is to stop oppressing anybody, not to simply keep the wheel of bigotry spinning.

Then you don’t listen to mainstream country radio. Which in itself is a good thing.

Well Bob, that all just makes too much sense.

My other thoughts on the whole situation are: How much did this guy use the internet to become such a fast success? I had never even heard of him. The internet giveth, the internet taketh away.

If a white man can be "canceled" for saying a word yet its fine for a black man to say the same word, then that is racial discrimination.

How would you feel if this was the other way around?

Why do you feel discrimination is fine, as long as it only goes one way?
