I know this belongs in the music board but this was my first time seeing this video. Living in 2020 with all the craziness, we will never see something like that again. You have 100,000 Russians it seems like at a concert and some in their Russian military uniforms excited to see an American band performing. With the coronavirus this would never be allowed in the new normal.

I fricking loath the term "new normal."

But holy shite, that looks wild.

Way more than that. Estimates are 500,000 - 1 million.

Those were actual Russian MPs. They were providing security. This was right after the fall of communism and the show was at an old air base. They used the old commie tactics to keep the crowd in line.

Metallica in Abu Dhabi October 25, 2011 was among the best I’ve attended. They rocked the casbah.

Back when Lars could still drum.

This happened in 1991 and the Soviet Union collapsed at the end of that year. Coincidence? I think not!

I have listened to or watched a couple hundred Metallica concerts. This is one of my favs from the Black album era

Edit: I think the raw footage without as much production is better LINK

Clip from Joe Rogan with James Hetfield talking about playing in front of 500,000 people. He also said he saw Russia military soldiers go from communism to freedom before their eyes after a few songs.

That’s insane...imagine if they would have said..”Now! Storm the Kremlin!”

On another note...I’d hate to have eaten spicy Thai the night before and be in the middle,of,that crowd.

Damn that’s awesome. Metallica in New Orleans in 2003 was my first real concert I ever attended and it was incredible.

I can’t imagine the energy in that crowd for that concert.

Metallica's Creeping Death or Pantera Domination were the top 2 performances from that show.
