Little Feat...what a great band !

Lowell George was one of the best singer/musicians ever...yet, Little Feat never got the recognition they deserved.

The way they mixed funk, blues and soul into their sound was incredible.

Lowell George had a great slide guitar sound, only second to Duane Allman in my opinion.

Any other Little Feat fans out there ?

I know most would point to Dixie Chicken or Waiting for Columbus as their best albums, but the debut self-title album is my favorite. So many bangers

This might be my all time favorite Little Feat song:

Hamburger Midnight

I just love the way Lowell growls the lyrics, and his slide is straight nasty on that one. That breakdown part from 1:25-1:40 is so good.

It's just so loose and grimey. The whole album is really. They get a little too over produced after Dixie Chicken imo

Although this is also an all time favorite of mine, and was much later in the career:

Long Distance Love

Richie Hayward was the most underrated drummer ever. R&R Dr. was their best song and Waiting for Columbus their best album. Of their studio albums my favorite is Time Loves a Hero.

It was facking amazing. It felt like shell shock after it was over.

Riverboat President Concert

quote:

The recording is somewhat less than pristine. But it captures the atmosphere extremely well, with the
drunkenly enthused featfans singing along at full throttle. This may be the only audience recording where
I don't much mind the crowd chatter. It gives you a feeling of what it must've been like to be one of the
lucky few that night, afloat on the Mississippi River and an ocean of booze and the rebirth of America's
greatest rock 'n roll band.

BTW - I never got to see Lowell George. This concert was the first Little Feat show after his death, a few years later. It probably was the pent up energy that made it so special but it was unreal.

Craig Fuller became the front man for Little Feat and he was a damn good pick. I saw them a few more times and the shows were all over the charts for quality. A later show with Sonny Landreth at Jazz Fest was one of the better ones. Lowell George came out of Frank Zappa's band and learned the importance of having top quality musicians and Little Feat always had that. But you can't replace a Lowell George.

Hell yes! I saw Little Feat and the Allman Bros back in 1991. Great show. They don’t get the credit they deserve.

One last post -

Bonnie Raitt (who played with Little Feat at times (and was on the Riverboat concert)):

"I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old."

I know everyone loves Waiting for Columbus, but I LOVE Live at Ultrasonic Studios. It truly is lightning in a bottle. The album versions of these songs actually sound a little stilted to me now because my brain compares them to the Ultrasonic performance.

There's high quality downloads of this recording available (legally) for free as well if you do a little googling.

hell YES!

There was a woman in Georgia, didn't feel just right
She had the fever all day and chills at night
Now things got worse, yes a serious bind
At times like this it takes a man with a style I cannot often find
A doctor of the heart and a doctor of mind.

If you like country with a boogie beat, he's the man to meet
If you like the sound of shufflin' feet, he can't be beat
If you wanna feel real nice, just ask the rock and roll doctor's advice.

It's just a country town but patients come
From Mobile to Moline from miles around
Nagodoches to New Orleans
In beat-up old cars or in limousines
To meet the doctor of soul, he's got his very own thing.

Two degrees in be-bop, a PHD in swing
He's the master of rhythm, he's a rock and roll king, yeah.

If you like country with a boogie beat, he's the man to meet (he's the man to meet)
If you like the sound of shufflin' feet, he can't be beat (I say he can't be beat)
If you... if you wanna... if you wanna feel real nice, just ask the rock and roll doctor's advice.

And the tied sweater around the neck on Lowell is the like better ironic attire than recent hipster attire had reached

Lowell had rare ease of playing like that & singing, and Payne is an all time rock player.

Lots of good memories with this band.
