Let's talk Christine McVie and Fleetwood Mac
Posted by danman6336 on 2/18/19 at 11:13 pm65
Miss me with that Stevie Nicks bullshite. This is the REAL female vocalist of Fleetwood Mac
She just has a certain sound to her voice that just works. Almost a strained sort of quality to it.
It probably helps that she sang a lot of songs in the stretch of albums that I consider Fleetwood Mac's best (basically from "Bare Trees" through the self-title in 75). Almost every Fleetwood song that I deeply love is sung by her (although Bob Welch and Lindsey Buckingham have some great lead vocals on a few songs around that period)
Anywho, thought I'd post a few of my favorites
Prove Your Love (McVie CRUSHES this one imo. totally wordless chorus. this song is pretty much the reason i made this thread. and those fricking strings. amazing.)
Just Crazy Love
Come a Little Bit Closer
Spare me a Little of Your Love
Heroes are Hard to Find (great fricking song)

Let's just post some Bob Welch F-Mac jams
Emerald Eyes
Sentimental Lady
Hypnotized
I just really dig the jazzy vibe Welch seemed to have brought to the table. That band jumped the fricking shark when they let lolStevie on board

I liked Warm Ways and Over My Head. Other than that, I thought her songs were meh...

Just saw her live and she can still sing.

Songbird is one of the most amazing pieces of music from that era. Nobody could sing that and pull it off like Christine McVie.

And I'm good with both Mcvie and Nicks. They're different but both bring their unique style to the table.

Totally agree here. But by the same token, I can't hear anyone else singing Gold Dust Woman the way Stevie did. Different voices, different styles, both incredible talents in their own right.

I never thought of them as Fleetwood Mac songs. These were just Christine songs they put on their album.

Stevie is obviously the bigger name, but it was Christine, Lindsey, and Stevie and the uniqueness of songwriting and voice of all three in one band that really made Fleetwood Mac.
That being said, Stevie put them over the top as far as female vocalists. She was and is exceedingly unique.

I know not a Christine song but I love Angel from that album

Trying too hard. Stevie Nicks is and always will be the voice of Fleetwood Mac. Although all of them were very talented.

Rumours is a staggeringly good album.
I get what you're trying to say about McVie - while I don't fully agree on all points, I concede she's underrated by "75 onward" FM fans as a songwriter, vocalist and keyboard player (she is a damned fine keyboard player of that era).
I never cared much for Bob Welch.
Come at me, bro.

Christine, Lindsey, and Stevie
From a pure vocal standpoint, it is tough to beat those 3 the way their voices were arranged on those Fleetwood Mac through Tango in the Night (I originally said Mirage - brain cramp) era - regardless of what you thought about the songwriting on Tusk, Mirage and TINT, when the three of them were "on" on a song, it worked extraordinarily well. McVie's voice is quite low for a woman and she was able to use that range to either bolster Lindsey's leads or Stevie's, as well as carry her own songs as lead vocalist. Lindsey and Stevie are also underrated as backing/harmony vocalists.

Lindsey Buckingham took them to the next level.
Aside from a handful of songs from Green and Welch, they really kind of stunk.
To add...Danny Kirwin was also really good.

ALWAYS loved McVie's voice better than Nicks. No comparison.
