Am I the only one that hears John Prine's "Hello in There" in a lot of Jason Isbell's writing?

Like "Traveling Alone" specifically, but probably a few others too? Im not even arguing knock off.... just listening to some Prine today and its not the first time I have immediately thought of Isbell on that song.

John Prine is amazing.

Jason Isbell... I've never seen the appeal. I just don't think he's very good. I think he gets overrated because people are so desperate for anything even somewhat authentic these days.

John Prine was/is incredible. Lyrics are ridiculous.

Never a junkie to my knowledge, but wrot Sam Stone.

Wrote Hello in There in his twenties. Now he's finally the elderly man in that song.

Was never a middle aged woman to my knowledge. But wrote Angel From Montgomery.

If he had never picked up a guitar he probably could have been a novelist.

His style SHOULD be copied.

John Prine is probably Jason Isbell's greatest influence so it doesn't surprise me if you picked up on that in song of his.

You have to have listened to the wrong songs.

for sure he is....

i dont know what it is about this one in particular but i can listen to a few albums back to back and every time it hit Hello in There it makes me think of isbell.

i tried to put my finger on which song, but i think it delineates to a couple (though traveling alone is the first to pop in my head).

And one of the best. John Prine can tell a story like very few others can. First introduction to Prine was "Illegal Smile" , Clyde Clifford used to play it on Beaker Street - KAAY, Little Rock on Saturday night. What a memory.

Prine is awesome. I heard 'Speed Of The Sound of Loneliness' when I was younger (w/Nanci Griffith)and I fell in love with it then.

Prine's new album is out. It's a duet album with different female artists.

I love that song.

Oh, and this was my intro to Nanci. Once In a Very Blue Moon.

I agree on both points - John Prine is awesome and Jason Isbell is overrated. Isbell's lyrics underwhelm me.
