Getting a lot of hate on here but watch it score in the mid to high 80s on metacritic

At the very least I'm guessing it'll score an 80/100

I'd put Cumberland Gap into "the okay" just because it has a lot of room to breathe live.

Now that I have given it a few listens:

Last of My Kind:

Laid back Isbell song, good lyrical content.

8/10

Cumberland Gap

8/10

Tupelo

10/10

Isbell at his best

White Man's World

8/10

This one seems to be the most controversial, though I don't think he is saying anything wrong here. Nice song.

If We Were Vampires

10/10

Up there with his best work. Best song on the album to me.

Anxiety

7/10 decent track

Molotov

9/10 third best song on the album, really good melody

Chaos and Clothes

7/10 Probably my least favorite, but the lyrics are strong enough, and he tried something a bit different

Hope the high Road

8/10 Similar to Cumberland Gap, as it is a song that will work extremely well live.

Something to Love

8/10 Nice closer.

Final score 83/100

8.3 out of 10 for me. It currently has a 86 on Metacritic, which is fair. Another good album for Isbell, continuing his hot streak. Not as good as Southeastern or Something More Than Free, but really good.

for me...."Tupelo" is the best song on the record...followed closely by "Vampires"

then "Anxiety", "Last of My Kind", and "Molotov"

"Cumberland Gap" is next

followed by "HTHR" and "Something to Love"

then "Chaos and Clothes"

last: "White Man's World"...it's really catchy....but I just can't figure out his motive....and I feel uncomfortable listening to it at work next to my very good friend...who is black...cause I'm not sure he will understand it.

I'd probably recommend seeing a doctor then.

Ive probably listened to it 4-5 times now, and while its not as good as Southeastern and Something More Than Free, its good.

Cumberland Gap, Tupelo, and Molotov are probably my favorites so far.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks Cumberland Gap is a kickass song.

I really enjoy Chaos and Clothes too...mostly because it reminds me of an Elliott Smith tune.

That would be okay. American Band might be their best album. Definitely top three.

Is... is this a joke? It is probably one of their worst albums along with Pizza Deliverance and Gangstabilly.

It grows on me with each listen, and I find myself singing it around the house.

Ones i like:
last of my kind --- sounds like im listening to John Prines "in spite of ourselves"

Tupelo

If we were Vampires

Anxiety -- However, it should have been a 3-4 minute song

Nothing will touch Southeastern - that is his magnum opus and to try to compare anything afterward to it will set the other album up to fail. That said, I think that while there are good songs on both Free and Sound, there are more of them on Free.

So far I really like Last of My Kind, Tupelo, Vampires, Molotov, Hope the High Road and Something to Love.

Is this a joke? The 2006 and 2010/11 albums are easily their worst

My favorite on the album is tupelo followed by Molotov. It's good but southeastern is still my favorite.

Not a joke at all. And PD is a great album. Gangstabilly isn't bad either. Your post was terrible.
