just gave this a listen for the first time...musically...eh...could be better...will probably be an opener for the live show to get everybody hyped up....but the content I have no problem with...
there is an epidemic running across Appalachia and to avoid the conversation is naïve and stupid...I give props to him...wanna talk about politics?...ok...at least he is talking about all of it...Jason here seems to be willing to discuss the poverty and raging drug use in that area of the country that effects whites....the fact that the mines being shut down and logging industry decreasing...due to leftist policies...have done nothing good for Appalachia.....hell the song "Methamphetamine" by Old Crow Medicine Show discusses the same topic...

I've got no problem with the content in either song. They are just not good songs. He's trying too hard to be "woke". He has conveyed similar messages in the past much more successfully without trying this hard. Even on the last album he approaches poverty and white trashiness on Children of Children. But that song was a fricking work of art.

such a shame he had to ruin a possibly great album with his political views.
Is this true? I haven't heard anything about the new album. Did he go all Drive-By Truckers on us?

I don't think its that extreme from what I've heard...dude writes about his own life...always has...if sobering up, getting married, and having a little girl has changed his view of the world...im kinda anxious to hear about it...

That would be okay. American Band might be their best album. Definitely top three.

He put it on Twitter this morning and said he considered it to be one of the best he's ever written. Won't argue.

Now that's more like the Isbell I fell in love with.

No shite. Great song. Hopefully the rest of the album is more of this and less of those other two songs.

Still reflecting on "Vampires." Dammit man, that's a strong song.

the dude just cant help but be debbie downer. He's great at it and its a pretty great song.

The knee jerk reaction I had was downer but after further thought there was something charming about the make the most of your time together and appreciate it fully story

Seriously one of his best. I am blown away by Vampires. I got the same feeling from that as I did hearing Elephant the first time.
I know he can jam and all that, but he's at his best with slow personal songs like this.

just gave Vampires a listen...first reaction...very good...I love how he has incorporated Amanda into his sound and on this one the message is doubled down by the fact she is his wife and not just some female lending her voice for an album.....makes it more sincere...dude has got to be one of the greatest songwriters of a generation for sure.

i am 41 and to me his is the greatest songwriter of my generation of music.

Hope the album is split 50/50, at least, with songs like vampire and the other two I've been trying to ignore.
He has me sold as the best singer/songwriter in all of music currently based off his last two albums. Please don't give me reason to change my mind.
