is Jack White still playing shitty guitars on purpose,

He said in Rolling Stone that he got a Eddie Van Halen Wolfgang and a 5150 amp, and it was so nice it changed his approach. He used an EVH on some new stuff.

quote:

White also abandoned his long-favored pawnshop guitars. It started when he saw an interview with Eddie Van Halen, promoting his latest signature instrument, the Wolfgang Special. “He said, ‘I wanted something that doesn’t fight me,’?” says White. “I was like, ‘Those are the magic bad words that I completely disagree with. And that’s why I’m picking his guitar.’?”

So he sent Smith out to fetch one, and a 5150 amp, too, which led to the unlikely sight of White shredding through a few Van Halen covers. The amp didn’t last, but he also got himself a St. Vincent signature model – “I love that she was making a guitar for women” – and a Jeff “Skunk” Baxter one as well. When he felt his fingers glide over the frets, he was dumbfounded. “Oh, my God,” he says. “If people only knew how hard it was on these shitty guitars?.?.?.?because I didn’t know!”

quote:

Along with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, Jack White was one of the poster boys for the Noughties pawn shop guitar revival with the White Stripes, but for his upcoming album, Boarding House Reach, he’s strapped on a guitar that’s perhaps the antithesis of his iconic Montgomery Airline: the EVH Wolfgang.

In promo shots for his upcoming tour, White can be seen with two Stealth-finished Wolfgang USA Edward Van Halen Signatures (note the red-button kill switch on the lower horn), one standard spec (below), and other that’s been customised with three humbuckers and blue hardware/inlays (above). Production model, please!

New album released. Giving it a listen and it is pretty damn good. I really like "Shine the Light on Me."

Was just looking at the date this thread was started. I don't understand why they released a single 6 months before the album release.

They released almost half the albums as singles, seems to be the new way of releasing shite these days with streaming services.

Halfway through the album and it's my favorite of the previously unreleased ones.

Man, they've released half the album prior to today, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Saw they were on Colbert last night but couldn't watch...DVR for later.

Edit--here's last night's performance with a little Colbert up front...

They'll be back on tonight.

Yeah, I've noticed the trend...but I don't think I've seen this long of a time period between the first single and the album release date. I mean Beck's Colors album was sort of like that, but it never had a solid release date until a long time after Dreams and Wow were released.

That break around 2:20 is Beatles-ish. Wasn’t expecting that.

I thought of Lenny Kravitz, but you are more right, Lenny has a lot of beatles -ish influence.

Absolutely, it's kind of rare nowadays
It's not rare at all. It's rare in your mind because you probably don't go on Youtube and listen to Indie artists. That's where you find your real gems but mainstream is all about what the big money music labels "make you" listen to. Do a little research.

That is great. Sounds like what Led Zeppelin might have been if they tried harder.
