Damn, nice choice. The song "Going to the Country" was in my head as I made this thread.
Thanks, I've been in a Bruce Cockburn mood for the last few weeks so he immediately came to mind. I was initially attracted to his voice but came to appreciate his fingerstyle guitar work too. He's an excellent musician in general and a truly great human being. I love just listening to him talk about his life and travels and just stuff.
For those not familiar with him:
a) His name is pronounced Co-burn, you sick fricks and
b) Here are a couple of songs to introduce you to his style
Closer to the Light
Pacing the Cage
I've been trying to find a song of his easy enough for me to learn to play. Good luck with that, as they say.

In this vein, James Taylor is damn hard to beat.

Gary Louris is a great singer, songwriter, and guitar player. He and his band (Jayhawks) have been largely overlooked since the mid-1980's. I really don't think he has ever written a bad song in his life.

Hendrix all the way. Bold as Love, Castles made of Sand, Wind Cries Mary. It's smooth as shite, lyrics are amazing, and the rhythm of his voice and guitar is crazy.

I like Mark Lanegan a lot. Old school, maybe Alex Chilton.
Also in this vein, Ian Moore is great and will be playing at the Red Dragon Listening Room this Thursday. Highly recommended.

Glad to see Jayhawks getting love - I'm a big fan of theirs
