I think the music of that time was a reflection of the times and changes in this country. Two parents working hard in the house hold not being around much and the kids being affected by it writing some music to deal with the unhappiness that came with it
Some say it was a result of the shitty Seattle weather and young being bored stuck inside all the time.

I don't care for him much, but Dave is a better guitar player than Kurt. That's how pathetic Cobain was.

Smells Like Teen Spirit is undoubtedly the anthem of the grunge era. I think people conflate the status of Smells Like Teen Spirit with the overall status of Nirvana. They were a great band, though. I think people that lived through that era knew they were great, but plenty of people leaned toward Pearl Jam, or Soundgarden, or AIC and some others, while still liking Nirvana.
I still listen to Nirvana routinely. About 15 or so of their songs are constantly in my playlists.
I think we still get the Foo Fighters, with or without Cobain's death. Cobain was going down the Lane Staley road of withdrawing. I think the guys from Nirvana would have gone on to side projects while trying to get Cobain back in the fold from time to time. But, Courtney killed him or made him so miserable he killed himself.

I don't think they're terrible, but they are my least favorite of the big grunge bands.
I don't hate Smells like Teen Spirit, but it's not a great song and I'm tired of it. I usually skip it if it pops up.

Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl respectively seem to be (arguably) the most over-rated band AND main artist in history.

I often wonder if you have ever heard the bands you post about. I don't think you've been right once here.

FF made good albums and radio hits well into their career before I really lost interest. This was while Grohl was doing other cool projects like QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures, and Probot as well.
Bon Jovi made some classic pop/rock hits but isn't nearly on the level of what Grohl has accomplished musically. There's really no comparison, and I don't even keep up with FF anymore.

Bon Jovi has sold 120 million records. Foo Fighters have sold 12 million.

So Bon Jovi's label made a lot more money off album sales in a different era before Napster was a thing. Got it.
Nirvana has sold 75 million albums, by the way.

I can tell that I wouldn’t be able to tolerate you in person. You are one of the try hards that seeks out opportunities to use the term “adjacent” in a conversation. It is a subtle but very telling indicator of one’s need to come off as eloquent or sophisticated in a discussion. Kind of like when the news media adopts a word like “problematic” and wears it out for a year or two. Undoubtedly, we have all heard the pseudo intellectuals wear out the word adjacent over the last few years and I guess you just followed along thinking it sounds sophisticated. It doesn’t.
Seattle-adjacent. LOL

Horrible take. You should get a job at Rolling Stone.

Bad take, kid. Very few bands can make genres of music obsolete with one song. Nirvana is deserves a little more respect.

I hate Nirvana but you can't say they are overrated. Like them or not, they are pretty much the face of the grunge Era. Comparing them to the Foo Fighters is apples to oranges, 2 different genres. AIC will always be the best Seattle band to me. I'll never forget watching them on Unplugged for the first time.

I've seen this parroted a lot on social media lately. I guess its the cool thing right now, to hate on Nirvana.
Terrible take. They were one of the biggest bands in the world before Cobain offed himself.

I can only summize that the love fest that is Nirvana is because Cobain killed himself.

Cobain was pretty much spent by the time he died. The smack and Courtney Love had done a number on him.....meanwhile other Seattle bands were just beginning to hit their stride like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.
So much of the Seattle guys were fricked on heroin. Duff McKagen talked about that some years ago. He was originally from Seattle and he talked about how heroin had been like a dark cloud that hit the area starting in the mid 80s

Sorry, Nirvana was the best band of the 90's. Introduced a new sound and did it better than anybody after them.Their MTV acoustic performance was one for the ages.
