i think this has a lot to do with it, when rap was awesome, it was a time of imagery in the raps. rapper told their story. now you can take a guy like drake who is a entertainer and have him lay down some tracks and you have a money maker, i'd be surprised if he writes his own raps and so you lose authenticity.

Rap has been on the downslope for a while, just look at the top 100 charts from '98-'12. I'd say it's now in the "laggards" portion of the adoption lifecycle. 2006ish was late majority.

Other than Kanye and a few other mainstream rappers, I only listen to rappers from Louisiana. I can't listen to the soft bullshite that passes as mainstream rap these days

Still a lot of power and diversity in the genre. Don't generalize it based on the label-pressured, watered down garbage you hear on the radio. I mean, some of the above artists have bad songs too, but it's mostly due to label demands. Aside from their radio hits, they put out a lot of quality stuff, especially the ones that still put out mixtapes/free albums.

Don't listen to rap near as much as I did in the late 90's/early 2000's. These days, Kid Cudi and Das Racist are probably my favorite rappers/rap groups.

No. I would even venture to say the future of rap is as bright as it has ever been, with rappers like Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Jay Electronica, Ab Soul, Dizzy Wright, Schoolboy Q, Earl Sweatshirt, Big KRIT, Tyler, The Creator, A$AP Rocky, and Jay Rock all coming into their primes a rappers. Add in guys like Jay Z, Kanye, and The Game still putting out good music and rap isn't as terrible as that fat frick Ricky Rozay and all of YMCMB make it seem.

Is Tyler the Creator considered good in hip-hop circles? I enjoy his stuff, but that's about the only rap I've liked that's come out in a long time.

He ain't for everybody, but I think he is lyrically one of the best to come out recently. I know a bunch of people who hate him, but they all love Wayne and MC Gusto so what the frick do they know.

After listening to Oldie and Rella, I don't think so. The potential for OF as whole seems to be endless, it's just all about them focusing.
